On the Oilers board, we did our depth chart positions.

BLANK-Whitney
Smid-Gilbert
Sutton-Petry

I don't see where he truly would fit unless we decided to not get a better D man.

Not really. Next season they have Smid, Whitney, Gilbert, and Petry as 2nd pairing defenseman. Potter, and Sutton as 3rd pairing. Peckham, and Tuebert as 7th defenseman. Methot is not a 1st pairing defenseman

I think he is very underappreciated by our fanbase, but overpaid by our management.. (everyone is overpaid in jacketland)

if the jackets do move him, who is left to play defense? we would be relying on a super soph in Moore who came up as a fluid skater and puck mover to be one of our better defensive d

No one is denying we need a defensive dman, but Meth isn't good enough to be one of two. Trade and look for another in the offseason.

I don't think moving Moore is a good idea the way he has played this rookie season, but would love to see savard and a pick or two that we get from selling used to upgrade.. moving one offensive d for a defensive d is a must.

Wiz would be ideal, but let's be honest with ourselves
How funny would that be though to see both he and Carter gone in a season?

Moore can't be going anywhere guy is still on a ELC, we need those types of steals. Trading ur big offseason acqusition, would make players not want to go to Columbus even more. Plus I like Wiz, he wants to win with us and he brings that fire in his game. I like Savvy too, think he could be very good..

I agree.. that's why I want to move him now for a d that fits a role that the jackets need more than what he does well! as for wiz.. love the attitude, hate the turnovers, haus the $ for a 2nd pair guy.. meh I wish he could go byebye but like I said I know that isn't realistic

Back on topic: you guys would really like Methot, but idk how much at $3Mish

I'm just wondering why we want him when we have cheaper defensive D like Smid and Sutton, as well as Gilbert/Whitney/Petry/Peckham/Teubert. Methot (and his price tag) just doesn't really fit.

Sure. I hear the Barons are looking for depth on the blue line

Methot signed a long term deal @ $3m rather than a short term deal for less with the possibility of a big pay-day down the track. In today's Jacket's team he may be out of his depth, but he's big, young, reliable and if they can upgrade the blue-line a little more he's an excellent #5.

You gotta remember - $3m may seem "overpaid" but it's actually the average NHL salary.

Methot had his thumb broken/exploded by a puck earlier this year, to the extent that his thumb bone was actually exposed... and he continued to play for about 30 seconds... With that kind of toughness and good defensive ability, it's not surprising he would be garnering some interest.

I'd rather keep Savard than Moore.

Savard, in half as many games, playing about 3 minutes less, has more points and is an even player.

Moore has less points and is a -17. Granted, he is playing 3 minutes moore (hehe) a night, but I ultimately think Savard is the better player. He's actually noted for his defensive ability, but is good on both sides of the puck. I think he's going to be a great player. It would be a mistake to trade him, IMO.

I like Methot, but this does not really make sense for either team. We don't need another 4 or 5 dman. We need a 1 or 2 guy.

Why would Columbus trade him too? They would have 1 guy left who plays defensively.

You mean trading both of your big offseason acquisitions, right?

For a young solid #5. I'd be game for that. I'm not sold on Omark or Peckham being everyday NHL players ever. While a #1 is first priority, this makes our blueline look like this:

Petry Smid
Whitney Gilbert
Methot Sutton
Potter

Not great, but more depth and an actual NHL defenceman until Klefbom/Musil/2012 1st are NHL ready.

Scouting reports have Savard defensively oriented. I say he's good on both sides of the puck. I'd say Savard is going to be really good.

Considering Whitney plays on the the left side, my question is 'Can Methot play on the right side?' If not, he would be a good candidate to bump Sutton to 7th d-man, but how much better is he than Theo Peckham?
