He is 27 with two years left on his contract after this season. I like his game because he brings it every night. It depends what they would want in return.
LA needs speed bad, something like Carle and Read get it done?
If LA throws in a second or third round. I would do it. But doing that would mean we would have to make another deal with another team for a defenseman.
JvR for Brown (maybe one side has to add a little more, not sure which).
Hell no.
Brown is a good 2nd line winger. We have several of those right now. I'd trade Voracek and something for him, but only if we don't think we'll be resigning Voracek. I don't think LA would accept that though.
Bobby Mckenzie on twitter not to long ago said they like brown as a player not a captain. You are not going to believe who he said they want to be the captain. MIKE RICHARDS.

You're nuts man. What is not to love about Dustin Brown? If JvR turns out to be as good as him, I would be psyched. JvR may turn out to score more points, but Brown is a more complete player (and it is yet to be seen if JvR even does wind up outscoring Brown). I would be pretty shocked if LA dealt Brown to the Flyers if the deal didn't include JvR.

Brown would be redundant on this team. Jvr still most definitely has first line winger potential, and we need a first line winger going forward. Hartnell, Simmonds, and Talbot all provide the things Brown does. Granted it's not all in one package, but we have no winger that can provide what Jvr is capable of producing.

I'm a bigger believer in the "bird in hand is worth two in the bush" school of thought. JvR has potential, yes. But he hasn't reached it. He may never reach it. He may exceed. In comparing Brown and JvR, Brown is probably offensively only a little behind (55-60 point guy) what JvR's potential is (PPG at best IMO). The rest of his game is above what JvR's potential is. I'm not knocking JvR and don't WANT to trade him, but if LA calls offering Brown, I'd do it (similarly if a team calls with a long-term defensive fix, although that looks unlikely considering the moves the team has already made).
I'm a big fan of Brown, but he's not the type of player this team is lacking imo. I don't know if the improvement we'd be getting by adding Brown would be worth what we have to give up to get him coupled with needs we might not be able to adress afterwards.
Would be nice for Hartnell not to have the worst balance on the team though...

Of course it's his IMO but still, he is usually spot on with these things.
Ahem. Lest we not forget how much we LOVED Mike Richards as our captain. I would take him back as Captain in a heartbeat. He is still a great player who apparently is LOVED by the players. Remember the shift? Come on now, I know he is gone, but IMO - not forgotton.

I understand that Brown is better right now, but in the construction of our team, a 1st line winger is far more important than basically another Hartnell/Simmonds type player. We need a long term solution for who is going to play with Giroux, and Jvr is the best, most cost effective option we have.
Also, we'd be trading 6 years of Jvr for 2 years of Dustin Brown. There is also uncertainty around how much Brown will make/produce after this contract as he'll want a decent upgrade in pay, and will be in his 30's.
