If Nash falls through, get Gaustad. I love the way he plays. And with Anisimov playing well on the wing, we could use another center. We need a faceoff presence. And more net presence.

I want Gaustad to take Mitchell's place and cement our bottom 6.

2 lines for scoring, 2 lines for checking. Pretty straight forward. Mitchell pisses me off on a gamely basis with his refusal to pass.

Another thing that messes it up is the concussion players.

GM's know if guys like Crosby, Horton and Backstrom can be ready for the stretch drive/playoffs. If thats the case, why make a desperate move when you're essentially adding a free elite asset who's familiar with the system?

IMO, here are the only teams who must absolutely make a trade:

1) Toronto -- they need to make the playoffs. Drought is too long and they're really not making major strides. They're 3 points out of 8th but 7 points from 15th. They need a goalie and a big checking center. Grabovski is a UFA and has a lot of value -- trade his ass.

2) Isles -- same thing. Theyre too close and have assets. Make a blockbuster trade for a marquee name, garner some needed interest and make the playoffs.

3) Rangers -- Need a friggin faceoff specialist and reliable, veteran, playoff-experienced bottom-6 D-man.

4) Chicago -- Theyre in danger of not making the playoffs. Their defense and goaltending have been terrible. If they dont make a deal for some help, Quenville will be feeling the heat.

Absolutely no chance Toronto sells at the deadline. Leafs fans will have Burke's head if he sells. This is the closest they've been to a first round exit since the lockout.

He does really have a tendency to overplay the puck. 1/10 times it works out but 9/10 times it either leads to a give away or a worse chance than if he had just dished it or just shot it.

I wouldn't mind Derek Roy one bit for plan C. I think he can play wing too.

1.Nash 2. Brown 3 Roy.

Roy is a playmaker not a finisher and is not likely to come cheap given how reasonable his contract is (lower cap-hit than Dubinsky). I highly doubt that he's available and that the Rangers would be willing to pay the cost if he is. Brown's just flatout not available.

If I was Buffalo, I would be pursuing Brown really hard. He's the type of player that I think that city and team would really identify with. Lindy Ruff would very much love him too.

Yeah, I'm aware Brown's not available right now. We're not out of the loop. As much of a playmaker Roy is he can be our Peverly pick up for these playoffs. Except, Roy is the more all around talented player. 20-25+ goal scorer with really slick hands. He would be a solid addition to the top 6 and add really good scoring depth heading into the post season.

The only issue is, like you said, is if Buffalo even wants to trade him and at what cost. There was buzz at one point that he could be available.

Brown was available, now he isn't available. Who knows what happens by the time Monday comes.

I prefer Nash at the right cost, followed by Brown (even though he's supposedly off the market right now), and then Roy.

This top 6 needs to be upgraded somehow.

Obrien is brutal. Do not want. I think Sarich would be an upgrade over Eminger.

I think the Flames will be buying and selling.

Sarich, Kostopolous for Zuccarello and Eminger?

We would need to add somethinbg small. But good proposal. As one of several deals I believe we might see.

Seems to usually be playing hard enough, as opposed to phoning it in, so to speak.
But Torts unbalanced D is everything system somewhat diminishes results by offense.

While we have some decent shooters. To overcome the above we need snipers.

I'm good with Mithcell for now.
Does dirty work, chips in with goal here n' there, plays hard, sets up linemates. And is dirt cheap.

We can make room for Gaustaud if no overpayment.
But Mitch has earned a stay.

spot on, except we need to consider higher D w/PP ability if available, and/or sniper, even more than FO, methinks.

I'm all about improving the 3rd line if we can't get Nash. Acquire a solid 3rd liner, move Prust to the 4th/PK duties and have Feds/Prust/Mitchell/Rupp alternate on the 4th line. Boyle I can deal with on the 3rd line, but Prust shouldn't be anywhere near it. My stance is that the 3rd line's inability to score is really hurting this team.

Less than 29 hours to go - until the insanity is finally over.
After yesterdays Wolski trade we have $11,044,625 available in cap prorated annual space (meaning we can take annual contracts matching this number) plus $838.000 if LTIR money for Sauer. This leaves us with $11.882.624. Plus in addition the $$ we can add on top of this regarding whatever roster contracts we send the other way.
We have never imo since the lockout (or longer) at the deadline:
  • Had this kind of capspace available
  • Been in 1st place in the Conference by 7 points (and the whole league in PPG)
  • Had this amount of assets in the pipeline

Be so sure we will see some serious action
Nash will not be the only player coming our way - if he comes at all.
Sather cannot help himself in such a situation I think
But he WILL NOT be dealing many - if any - core players or top prospects.
I do however think that many of our 2012/2013 draftpicks will be on the table now - which is basically moot imo at the moment
Getting very interesting.
Buckle up & enjoy the ride my fellow HF Posters. The rollercoaster has left the station...
