Got him for a about 10 games in the 06-07 season...I remember he had some great chemistry on the third line with Matt Cullen. I was a pretty big fan of his, he played well in his short time here. Then shipped him to ATL for Alex Bourret. There's a cool video of the handshake line at the end of the NYR ATL first round sweep, Dupuis is the last in line for the thrashers and gives all the Rangers big hugs and congratulations. He was definitely well liked in that locker room.
As far as Pascal Dupuis goes; he was good in his brief time on the Rangers but if they don't trade him, our current Captain Ryan Callahan doesn't get his first full time shot and first playoff series. Dupuis was a stopgap anyway and Bourret had some high end potential. it's just he was viewed as having weight problems. He played pretty well with Dawes in the minors but inconsistency, bad training (gained too much weight), and concussions slowed him down.
As for Emrick, I know the guy is from Michigan but he's a giant Pittsburgh Pirates fan so maybe that has something to do with his "excitement" when calling the Penguins. The Penguins are considered the "darlings of the NHL" anyways, always get the most TSN press, at the 2010 Draft they were referred to as "Draft Royalty" this goes all the way back to the Mario Days. Why, I don't know. Maybe in Canada they view Pittsburgh as the most Blue Collar city in America? It's a little too much for me and I'm sick of that city being a pain in the rear to NY in 3 out of 4 sports (well four if you're a Jets fan but they really haven't bothered the Giants at all).
I still don't understand that trade. The Penguins won that hands down. Goligoski is a fine player but he's a second pair guy you can get as a UFA, not trade a power forward and a pretty decent DMan for.

Puck moving defensemen are at a premium. You're going to overpay to get one, and they don't hit free agency very often.

That's what I don't get though; he's not upper echelon; a second pair guy at best. They couldn't just wait to get one of the usual Tom Poti/Dennis Wideman types on the market? Sure these aren't as good, but are they really THAT much better than Goligoski?

How could they possibly be a pain in three out of four sports? They have no NBA team and the Pirates have been a joke for 20 years.

It was definitely a potential for potential trade when it happened though. A lot of people were extremely high on Goligoski, and I know some people genuinely thought he'd be better than Letang.

I don't think a single Pens fan thought so. What many of us have said however is that he is and will be a better PP quarterback.
Gogo has been great for Dallas in any case, and considering both teams needs, both teams got a good deal. Neal is to a large extent a product of Malkin and just isn't as good as his numbers indicate (still, very much a great piece for us because we have the C's we do), but what tips the trade to be clearly in our favor is that Niskanen has been very, very good.
