SOLI'S SHORTSIDE
- To celebrate Leap Day, I took the concept of an extra day and applied it to an NHL game... overtime. Of course we have to have Cogliano's amazing NHL record 3 consecutive game OT goals. Also, Horcoff's 3OT GWG against the Sharks and Pisani's OT Game 5 winner. Todd Marchant's OT winner against Dallas... nuff said. And Taylor Hall's been a huge overtime hero for us these past two seasons, and fittingly, he got his very first OT game winner against the St. Louis Blues.

- Nick Schultz will don the Oilers jersey for his first game as an Oiler. He'll wear #15

- The Oilers lineup is tentative. I expect Paajarvi will be re-inserted into the lineup and hopefully not on the 4th line. Schultz I believe will play opposite Whitney. Dubnyk is likely the starter, and this may spell the last time we'll see Danis as back up with Khabibulin eyeing a return to the lineup.

- Sportsnet will join the game in progress when the Leafs game ends tonight on TSN. I will attempt to find a stream for the St. Louis game. If I was in town, I would call up the local watering hole and see if they'll have the St. Louis broadcast of the game for the 1st period. Some places have satellite and I don't think that they are subject to the blackout like Center Ice is. GAME WILL BE SHOWN IN ITS ENTIRETY!

Just thinking out loud, but how hard would it have been to have this game start at 8:30? Not like they didn't know when the TV schedule was made that this would be an issue.

They pushed back the start to 8:00 from 7:30 at least. Someone needs to get in contact with Sutton and get him to break the boards in warm up.

I have center ice ad it shows the game a 7:00( Victoria) on ch.350.

Also why does a leafs game on TSN effect a Oilers game on SN?

Whenever I watch it seems like Hall shoots a lot. Almost Kessel-like in that he has a lot of shots blocked or tipped out of play but when he gets it to the net it can be deadly.

I know what you mean though, it seems like he often tried to deke through multiple defenders instead of firing it on and crashing.

TSN owns national rights for tonight. Can't have competition until their game is over.

Not really. It's sportsnet's fault. TSN negotiated this, just like CBC does with Hockey night in Canada.

Old guy to the rescue!

Klima's marathon OT goal vs Boston in the finals was good too.

There's always the Gretzky winner vs the Flames as well.

Don't see how it's Sportsnet's fault. TSN negotiated with the NHL, not with Sportsnet. TSN are being dicks for not giving a waiver to Sportsnet to broadcast the Oiler's game in full. The NHL should have insisted that if you get broadcast rights then you damn well better broadcast all the games...use TSN2 or whatever they need to. Otherwise you have to give way to another broadcaster. That's between TSN and the NHL, not Sportsnet.

If by beastly you mean they hold, hook, interfere, hit late, etc, then you'd be correct. I don't think the Oil can compete unless the refs call the game tight.
This also could come down to coaching and if that's the case, we lose.

I don't like the fact that they've been letting dead-puck-era shenanigans go anymore than you, but the blues are on a particularly nasty tear right now and we're very much unlikely to throw a wrench into that.

I'm in the Eastern timezone and CI says the game starts at 10. Is it going to be closer to 10:30 or 11?

Yea I guess it is tsn rights
But they should have planned for this maybe making game time a little later or have the game on snet oilers (tsn has NATIONAL BROADCASTiNG RIGHTS right?)
Anyway it's not that big of a deal we'll probably miss about half hour so we'll miss roughly first 10 minutes

That I agree with. I have to think scouting/coaching could find some ways to exploit their weaknesses but we seem unable to do that, for some reason.

Defensively solid, well-coached, physical, experienced opponent. This will be real tough to win. STL is like Phoenix, but better.

Sportsnet knew a long time ago that this was an issue. I'd be shocked if they didn't know about this when they picked up this Oiler game. They had the same issue last year. Why would TSN give Sportsnet a waiver? This is a business. I doubt this game in particular would steal a lot of viewers from TSN, but you can't let things like this slip through or you'll have Sportsnet trying to broadcast MTL vs VAN when TSN has the rights.
