This is a good thing!
There is no way you can replace him next year.

Yeah, say bye to Omark now. Kid never really got a chance this year.
So happy, and at 5 million great price. We all know what Hemsky can do, especially since he is at 100%. Been playing great lately as well.
2 actual scoring lines? What a luxury...
Smyth is next.

What is this. I don't even.
An Oiler, Home grown talent re-signing through his UFA status?

Glad to hear this. Unless there was a deal out there that would have blown us away, this was the right choice for the Oilers.

Seems like a good deal for both sides to me. Ales has the chance to prove he is still a top end player out there while the Oil keep a solid player who wants to be here.
This proves Ales wanted to be an Oiler

"(The signing) was probably the main focus up until an hour ago. It changes the direction of what we could be looking at (Monday)."
hope that doesn't mean that Gagner's on the block.

Awesome! I'm thrilled he's still going to be around. It really is a good contract too

This is perfect. It is win-win for the oilers, no question.
Oilers get Hemsky at a reasonable price for 2 years. He can either
-re-establish his value as a trading chip perfectly in time for us to need big cap space. F
-Find his game and become a premier player for the oilers
-continue to suck (get injured) and cause the Oilers no more pain in 2 years.

I think Gagner's been playing too well to get traded on DD unless they get an unbelievable offer.
P.S. I can't imagine how Hemsky doesn't get a NTC. Maybe a limited one, but something...

Hopefully it means they start looking at roster players to add for next season. Brown and a defenceman please.

I'm going to go kick Tambo in the shins if that's the case. My guess is they look at moving Khabbi and that's it

This 50X over.
No fan now going forward should ever say that Hemsky doesn't give a crap or is all about the money because signing for a 2 year term to stay in Edmonton shows that he wants to be here and show that he can contribute at a high level again. It's a huge risk on his part because if his body falls apart this will likely be his last big dollar contract.
He could quite easily have walked away to free agency on July 1st and hit a jackpot contract for something in the $5 mill x 5yr range, but instead has chosen to stay in Edmonton.
A lot of respect for Hemsky over this deal.

I am actually really disappointed in this signing, I like Hemsky but the only way I would offer him 5mil a year is if he were to stay healthy which he hasn't been able to do over the last few seasons.

As long as it's not a NMC. If he really sucks, there's always the option to bury him then (although even if he keeps playing like this, 5 million isn't enough of a stretch to warrant it)

I am happy to see the deal get done. Hemmer is an Oiler and obviously did not want to leave.
