Top 6 center I would imagine. Horc drops to the 3rd probably.

It's a huge risk on his part because if his body falls apart this will likely be his last big dollar contract.

He could quite easily have walked away to free agency on July 1st and hit a jackpot contract for something in the $5 mill x 5yr range, but instead has chosen to stay in Edmonton.

A lot of respect for Hemsky over this deal.
Very true. In all honesty I'm not sure I would have done the same in his position. I'm sure very few other players would have.

Spector just makes silly noises. As I have pointed out before, I hold in in the same esteem as Eric Francis.

Even I didn`t know what to think.

I guarantee that Hemsky could have gotten more in term and sum value elsewhere, but the guy wanted to play here because he loves edmonton and he believes in this team.

He can be our Hossa, just not signed to a humongous big term.

5 million a year seems like way too much.

He has been this season. It seems like his shoulder is finally healed properly. Even if he wrecks it again though, it's only a 2 year deal

First off, great to have Hemsky for another 2 years. Now that his shoulder is finally healed and he's starting to look again like pre-surgery Hemsky again, he's going to provide some needed secondary scoring. I couldn't be happier with the term or caphit.

hope that doesn't mean that Gagner's on the block.
There's just no way we can trade Gagner now. I would be shocked if we moved him. He's looked too good of late and is still so young. Even his FO% is approaching acceptable.

Omark may be gone, unfortunately. But if we're going that route we really should call him up and showcase him to maximize the return. Give him some PP time and let some scouts report back about the skill that guy has.

He took a higher yearly salary to take less term. He would've gotten 3-5 years from someone else as a UFA. Basically his salary is going to become RNH's future contract extension in two years time.

I wouldn't mind seeing this as the forward lineup next year:

Jones-RNH-Eberle
Hall-Gagner-Hemsky
Smyth-Horcoff-Paajarvi
Lander-Belanger-Eager

If we draft Grigorenko (unlikely I presume):

Jones-RNH-Eberle
Hall-Grigorenko-Hemsky
Smyth-Gagner-Paajarvi
Belanger-Horcoff-Eager

If Gagner is (and that's a big if) dealt it'll be at the draft/July 1.

Very happy that Hemsky signed. It speaks volumes to his character. Now if they could just win a Cup before he retires or gets traded.

He's a 1st line player (granted, when healthy) about to become a UFA. How much are those players worth these days? It's a fair deal.

I'm glad we got this done. He's a valuable hockey player to have on this team. And beyond that, he seems like a good guy who wants to stay in the city and likes Edmonton. That counts for something considering how much trouble we've had with free agents in the past.

I'm pretty sure he will have a great season next year. People seem to forget, his shoulder wasn't properly healed after the surgery until a couple of games into the season. He still hasn't had time to strengthen it and tighten it up a lot by working out. This off-season is huge for him.

So happy to have my favourite Oiler back for another two!

This makes great sense for both sides - he clearly is committed to the city and is excited about the team, and the team maintains some forward depth. And the money won't block us regarding trying to sign other players.

He is being paid 5,000,000 in cash this season.

He would likely get the same amount of cash via free-agency, though with a longer-term attached.

I can't believe fans of other teams think Hemsky would sign for lesser contract via free-agency.
