Not a bad signing. Glad Hemmer is staying and at 2 years can't do too much damage. With Gags and Petry really showing signs of improvement I am starting to feel a little less negative about things. Tambo still needs to do his job and start adding in the off season and next year. This is when he is going to show what he is made of and I guess this is a good start.
After some of sad-sack efforts Hemsky was delivering earlier in the season, I was pretty convinced that he was done with Edmonton and I was done with him.
Because of that, this signing is a bit of a shock to me. But I like it. I'm really impressed with Hemsky digging down and overcoming his changing role and whatever else may have been affecting him earlier in the year, and coming back to play like he has recently and then signing this contract.
I feel like Jennifer Aniston in Friends. . . I was in love, I fell out of love, I tried to give it another chance, it didn't work. . . then the big romantic gesture just before I was about to get on the plane won me over. . .
First off, great to have Hemsky for another 2 years. Now that his shoulder is finally healed and he's starting to look again like pre-surgery Hemsky again, he's going to provide some needed secondary scoring. I couldn't be happier with the term or caphit.
There's just no way we can trade Gagner now. I would be shocked if we moved him. He's looked too good of late and is still so young. Even his FO% is approaching acceptable.
Omark may be gone, unfortunately. But if we're going that route we really should call him up and showcase him to maximize the return. Give him some PP time and let some scouts report back about the skill that guy has.
i hope you're right about Omark. I wouldn't have much of an issue with that either...I just don't think he has that much room to develop further...
regarding Hemsky's shoulder, I think people don't realize that the surgeries he's had are just a temporary fix. he's looking healthier with every shift and i doubt we see a recurrence of injuries.
awesome news! I think we are way better with hemsky in the oilers line up now depending on where we pick I think we are in a really good position for next year.
If we get the 2nd pick and take grigorenko then you can trade sam for a top 4 dman and if not we can just take a dman with our pick
If Gagner is (and that's a big if) dealt it'll be at the draft/July 1.
The next hurdle for Gagner is his contract. If he starts making unreasonable demands he goes from being unlikely to likely in terms of being traded. I don't really think he'll ask for crazy money though.
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I love this guy... signing a 2 year deal when he's reaching UFA... HE MUST love it here to do that. I guess not all people are about the money... its nice to see.
I bet TSN and Sportsnet is just kicking themselves over this signing lol
No matter what Tambellini did it would have been a gamble. Either sign him with hopes he can be healthy and produce like a $5 million player, or trade him and hope whatever he nets in return can fill the void.
Happy that it is only 2 years. Any longer would have tied up too much $$ for the future.
Listening to Tambo speak I find it interesting that Tambo said "I know our players will be very happy, and maybe that's the most important thing". Personally I think the dressing room made it known that they wanted Ales signed... I think for once the Oiler's really are a "team"... I know that's one of the MAJOR changes Ive noticed this season.
Well joy in Mudville eh? Honestly Hemmer could have gotten more as a UFA, but it is nice that a player likes the city and displays some loyalty albeit $5 million worth.
Im honestly surprised. With him pouting and stuff (cue how do you know he was pouting) and Jagr giving him the message, i thought he was a goner for sure
Good deal IMO, the terms makes it. The money is whatever, hes basically taking a pay cut. I think hes getting paid 5M this year. Hes making no more than he is now and if anything only a .5 increase, which really speaks highly of his attraction for edmonton. Who wouldve really thunk it, after Smyth/Lowegate, Ales Hemsky is the one that shows the loyalty to the club and the city
