Ya, people are leaping headlong into premature conclusions, but what you're saying isn't perspective either. You haven't liked the trade from the beginning, you're ignoring anything that could be to Zidlicky's credit, and you're still saying we gave up too much when it's far too soon to say.
oh not you too…youre better than that..
I’ve said all along that we’ll have to see where lou’s going with this, we don’t know the ramifications of this trade until Minnesota selects using washington’s 2nd rounder…that I liked zid, but he wasn’t my first choice for a multitude of reasons…etc etc. im full of perspective, I just am not going to gush and bump a thread every time he makes a pass. 4.5 isnt cheap, and while he hasn’t blown me away yet he is playing better. I expect him to play much better next season once he has a training camp down and family settled, etc.
I have to disagree - the games right before the all star break where we lost to Boston and Philly - Foster was on for almost every even strength goal against and most were caused by his inability to do anything in the defensive zone. He was awful and at one point right around there got benched for ******** the bed on 2 even strength goals in a row. And we won the game after he never saw the ice again.
I believe you. I'm sure he was on the ice for those Philly, and Boston games for the goals against. I really remember him being on the ice for like 3/4ths of the goals against when we were winning too.
He was on for a couple during the Rangers game we won in the shootout, he was on for probably all the Montreal goals, and was benched which I was happy about. He was on the ice for most of the goals we gave up I noticed during our huge streak where we were winning a lot of games back there.
Maybe I didn't notice much, but I don't remember his play costing us too many games, but I'm sure had he kept playing like that it eventually would have messed us up bad. Don't get me wrong I couldn't stand to see him get so many minutes. I think for a while they were giving him a lot during Larsson's injury. I don't wish he was still here or anything I just didn't HATE him. He helped us out a few games where we needed non shootout wins too. I guess he also cost us a few wins.
Regardless though I still see the same Devils play with or without him. The first half of the 2nd period last night where they were pinned in their zone. Every goal the Devils give up just about is because of this. No chance of getting out of the zone. No ability to clear. It's usually blamed on Marty or Goaltending in general. How is Marty supposed to run out of the crease, and clear the puck haha? I mean he has done it before though like in the Vancouver game.
He's played one BAD game, several decent games and now a Great game.
At no point has his average been anything less than far better than Foster. Either a few folks are only looking at the scoresheet, or they are fixated on only watching the puck during a play and ignore how plays develop. He keeps the puck in the offensive zone better than any other Dman and moves the puck to create passing lines as well as any other and then makes the accurate and crisp passes once that lane is open.
Foster had ONE phenomenal game scoring 2 goals thanks to 5 on 3 powerplay. He was a total failure at 5 on 5 hockey and COST this team wins. I have yet to see anything remotely close to Zidlicky costing this team a WIN. His worst play thus far was not stopping a bouncing puck tossed back to him on the extra attacker and that going into the empty net. Far cry from Foster's nightmare plays corkscrewing himself into the ice as he turned to find the puck and his check if he wasn't busy turning the puck over unforced behind our own net or in the corner attempting a basic stop and start.
If there isn't a vast difference in the quality of play between these two players already I don't know that there ever will be. Stop looking at the price on the menu and start enjoying the meal. Dinner has been served and Lou's paying the tab.
No idea what he has done to garner immediate criticism right away.. God forbid a new player gets some time to get adjusted to a new team.
The 2nd round pick is an unknown and Palmieri wasn't going to crack the lineup.. He was given chance after chance
Praise the Lawd.

People are "jumping on his bandwagon" because they are making fun of everyone who bashed him after two freaking games.
It`s a reverse joke. If you didn`t get this by now... ugh.

Reason: bandwagon lol
I never said I wanted Foster here still! Maybe when I was bitter after the TB loss Zidlicky's first game.
I just said I didn't mind him much. I thought he was a defensive liability. In fact I found myself scratching my head seeing him on the ice so much at even strength.
All I'm saying is I'm glad he was here when he was here. He wasn't my favorite player, but I didn't mind him. I guess he won us a couple games, and he lost us a couple, so it's a wash.
I guess I'll say I'm a Foster sympathizer. He was probably the perfect guy to give up for Zidlicky.

No, you don't get it. I was skeptical of the trade when it was a rumor and when it happened. I am not on here every game saying we lost or won the trade based on a small sample size. If it's a reverse joke, refrain from quoting people who weren't criticizing him every game in the first place.

And apologies Cowbell for the language.
What is there not to get again? I wasn`t referring to your previous posts.
I specifically quoted your last post and replied to it. Bolded the part I wanted to explain and so I did.

exactly, well put. i like the cut of your gib.
the best and funniest jokes often need to be explained thoroughly
He has the ability to make those sick saucer passes from the top of the circle in our zoning to a streaking forward near the other team's blue line. When was the last time that we had a D who could do that consistently? Rafalski?
Anyone who is on any type of bandwagon about this trade after six games should promptly jump off.
Zidlicky is a good offensive defenseman. Give it time.
...and bear with the gaffes. My prediction is that he's going to be the defensive equivalent of Kovalchuk. He'll made some incredible plays and take risks others would not but he'll have an occasional "big" miscue. I think you live with it realizing the net gain. He brings a dimension that should help SUSTAIN pressure for the Devils forwards.
He's not the PP specialist that Foster was. He moves, creates space, and keeps the D moving.
When he starts forcing shots, you're going to see shin pad blocks leading to 2-on-1's.
Honestly it doesn't matter how often he shoots, as long as the opponent respects the fact that he can shoot. With so many other shooters on the PP, he doesn't need to be the one cranking them. And he does take the open shot when it's the best option.
I love the way he wanders around the offensive zone, creating confusion for the opposing defence and helping the cycle. The only other defenceman we have who does that consistently is Larsson.

People wanted to throw him under the bus after 1 game, and you're cirticizing US for praising him after 6 games?

Speaking of which, how bout that pass from Larsson in the 1st? Took the puck out of the corner and turned and found the left winger "streaking forward near the other team's blue line". Made the play so quickly.

I think this kid is going to be great.
Oh definitely. His passing is already way above average for most dmen in the league.
Like a bowl of mashed potatoes. Looks great on the plate but when is sitting in your stomach not going anywhere, you hate yourself.
Prediction: Zidlicky will hit his stride the last 5-6games, get 4-5points and the PP will click just in time for the playoffs.
The guy moves better than Foster(as do Slinkys), when he gets used to playing with Kovy at the point and they start doing that moving PP they were doing Foster, watch out.
Optimism and screw that 2nd round pick. They still have one and I'm not worrying about some kid who won't play for 3-4 years and maybe, just maybe if the stars align, might be an All Star.
i keep seeing actions justified as a response to people hating him after one game. i wasn't around last week, so i honestly don't know- did this actually happen? if i go back and look, will i actually see that? or will i see a few (minimal) sarcastic comments, and some (again, minimal) sensible, fair criticisms?

You will actually see people complaining abou him.
