It's called depth. I know it's been a long time coming but jeez man do you think Methot is worse than Barker or Peckham?

Just to clarify I don't want to trade Gagner for him but Columbus is having a fire sale right now so he could probably be had for cheap. Peckham and 4th maybe?
He's never been good, but he's probably been playing out of his depth and might be fine with less responsiblity as a third pairing guy. But not for 3 million.

With Hemsky signed, I don't really expect anything. Other than shopping spare parts for someone else's spare parts or late draft picks there's not alot to be done this deadline.

July 1st and the draft will be far, far more interesting.

minor league deal.

shop both Peckham and Barker. see if there are any takers.

probably won't actively shop Khabby, but will entertain offers. Still has 1 year left though. so I doubt anybody will bite.

About Brown...

The big rumor being discussed on the Official board is Gilbert for Brown, especially with LA needing another decent defenseman.

Kind of makes sense, we have 4 puck moving defensemen and little space to add Methot. Petry got better a whole lot faster as well, and will take the PP time away.

Brown on the wing with Gags and Erbele will look real damn good as well. I think the price would be higher than just Gilbert though, figure DL will try for MPS as well. He can get a lot for Brown, though it seems there has been some pull back with trading Brown.

Hell, I would do it, there's the beef for the top 6 we have all been pointing out the Oilers needed for years. Hope Tambi has the balls to pull it off though.

Anything Tambi can get for Habby, Pecks, and sadly Jones I would be happy with.

Doesn't Brown play RW though? Seems we're stocked at wings for now.

Since last year trade deadline when we traded some expired leftover syrup for a former 1st rounder Teubert, another 1st rounder we used to pick Klefbom and a conditional 2nd rd pick.

If I remember, someone brought that up on that board, Brown can play both sides.

I would rather have Brown at 2nd line LW than MPS at the moment, think he would give that needed dimension of toughness.

I would try Gilbert and Omark as the first offer myself. Besides, when you are a team like Edmonton, I would just get the best possible players that fit a established need, especially at a reasonable cost, and worry about where they fit later.

Okay,

I understand we just signed Hemsky and we look to try and be competitive for next year, but I, for one, am bummed that hes not going to anything on deadline day. This is one of the few days oiler fans can enjoy with the rest of the NHL, and now we are done??? Does he forget we are still 29th in the NHL and our defence still needs significant upgrades?

I was looking forward to this deadline but it appears I shouldn't be because we aren't gonna be participating....

Or am i reading too far into this?

I think everyone needs to relax. We don't need to make trades just to make a splash. If something comes out of the blue and gobsmacks Tambellini as too good to be true, it will happen. Don't forget we can be active at the draft and on July 1. Some people seem to think if you don't make any kind of trade on this one day, the season is ruined. If it's not there, don't do it.

perhaps it's best we stay away from making deals and stick solely with the draft to rebuild....players like Ray witney, jason Chimera,Kyle brodziak etc. make the oilers look stupid when it comes to deals

Well, you never know. Tambi may have a couple deals up his sleeve yet. Gilbert would be a big fish, but also you could say Habby (to toronto rumors), Jones, Pecks, Omark, Plante, maybe a surprise decent offer for say MPS.

Never know right?

Want to put some context in this thread. Tencer brought up the book comment in his question to Tambellini. Tambellini just laughed and repeated what Tencer had said. I heard the interview.

Not saying he is going to be busy but I think the thread assumes a statement that really was not made by Tambellini.

If we don't do a big deadline deal we'll be 1st round playoff fodder. Swing for the fences Tambo.

Listening to the interview I kind of felt like Tambo, like he always done wasn't really shutting the door on anything. In fact he did state that there will be "options and scenarios that come up that we haven't heard before so anything could happen".

I for one will be keeping my fingers crossed, as I have taken the day off everyday for the last 13 years for trade deadline

So give me so actions Tambo!

So, he's not going to fix our sieve D?

Guess he enjoys being scored on more than we can score most times.

You know, i was upset at first at how much negativity and nonsense you've been bringing to the forum since joining...oh not even two months ago. Now i just find you funny as i see through you, and to what you really are. Instead i will just laugh at you going forward.

Im really scared that the oilers will trade away peckham an he'll turn into a stud. Is he waiver eligible? I dont think he is but we can give him time to develop. He's only 24 and has shown good upside.

You think for a team with no chance at the playoffs that the best time to "fix your sieve D" is at the trade deadline?

Yeah, probably a lot of sweet deals out there this time of year...

he has? i don't see the hockey sense in Peckham to be a stud. he'll be a tough bottom pairing defenseman, but i don't see much more than that.

i'd be okay trading away Gilbert/Peckham/Barker, but without a defenseman coming back, it would leave us without much depth to our back end.

I disagree, I think running a MPS-Lander-Omark 4th line against butter soft opposition could give us the best 4th line in the league
