Game 63 | Vancouver Canucks @ Phoenix Coyotes | February 28, 2012 | 7:00 PM

Phoenix Coyotes

VS

Vancouver Canucks

(The Canucks get criticized a lot for being a "team with no class", but yesterday's trade with Buffalo shows they will make a bad roster move to enforce their "no groin kicking" policy.)

(It's okay Ray, rejection hurts. Just never give up.)

I think they should give Rundblad a chance with all those Dman injured.

I hope so. He plays them well and no need to hurt Smith's confidence. Flames, Jackets, Penguins/Jackets (b2b) Wild and Sharks the next two weeks. Smith can take all of those except maybe the Penguins but Barbs can start that.

That being said, Smith should play Vancouver in the last meeting just to test the waters. I think it is safe to say is he a different and better goalie then he was the first time they met. But starting Barbs tonight will give him a long rest again and just makes sense.

Great GDT! The power of Emma Stone should be enough for another two points.

The stats are prior to the Oilers game.

EDIT: Wasn't it? Or am I imagining things here?

Very perceptive! I noticed that too when I saw only 1 GP for Vermette. I thought I edited it before anybody could comment on it, but I guess not. Thanks!

I love the first phrase in this song, totally goes with all the sports teams I love to watch.

On that note, Smith hasn't been playing his best hockey, but he has to face the challenge of the top teams in the league eventually. We do play them again, so I wouldn't be opposed to him getting another break tonight. But he also has had a 2 day rest, after a day game in Edmonton.

Just have to play a sound defensive game, and try to stay out of the box. Torres needs to play disciplined hockey(he seems to take a bad penalty every game it feels like).

Should be a good game though. Coyotes playing well, and the Canucks are the Canucks.

Been watching Coyotes games all February and it's a heck of an impressive run and nice to see. Good luck tonight.

I popped over to talk defensemen with you guys. Wanted to wait til after the deadline had passed because it's more a future-looking discussion than for this current season. Is the player inquiries sticky the right thread for that?

Jesus looking at the 'Nucks lineup is scary.....All 4 lines are legit.

Anyways, im hoping Vermette can get on the scoresheet tonight. It would be a perfect game to get going.

GO YOTES!!!

Some reason I was expecting this to be an away game that started at like 8pm. Play Smith, don't start Labarbera. There should be no explanation needed for that.

I think they go with Labarbara. Smith does need some rest before the final sprint. This would give Smith 4 days between starts.

If we are as good as we all say we are, then we need Smith to start, not LOL to protect Smith.

I don't like 4 days off for Smith. He's had 2 already. He's freaking on a hot streak, hottest in the league for goalies, and you want to turn to Jason Labarbara solely based off his numbers vs. them? Hell, I have a better GAA against the Nucks than Smith, should I start? Smith is the better goaltender, we are not in a back to back situation and the point crunching is on.

I just don't want the hot streak to end yet and he has a couple games he can win without question coming up. Also can't have him playing all remaining 20 games and expect him to be in peak condition for the playoffs. I'll be happy to see him start, but I believe Barbs is the better choice in the overall picture.

I agree he can't start all 20 games, but to protect him against a good team is crazy. How can we expect to get out of round 1 if we "protect" him against great teams.

Labarbara has a great record against the Canucks.

Toss Smith out there and the squad gets killed tonight and you leave a squad that believes that they can't beat the Canucks. Toss Labarbara and you get killed and the squad believes "maybe if we had started Smith it would have been a different story".

We were destroyed by the red wings in the playoffs last year, however, we have beaten them this year.

True, I'd like to see Smith tossed in with the wolves tonight. If he gets beat, perhaps there are things that could be learned. But he's been playing well, and our defense really shows up against the tougher teams. Either way, it should be a great game tonight!

Smith has been tossed to the wolves in most games. I have no problem with LOL being in net vs the Canucks and he redemmed himself with that fine performance he had vs Vancouver in the last meeting.

Smith will be the starter in the playoffs no matter who they face but if he gets hurts or sucks vs Vancouver in the playoffs(if we face em of course) then Im glad we will have LOL as the back up.
