Could go either way. Its the Isles so it won't be a big deal if Auld eaks out a win there.
But if he fails again, at least it give Murray something to think about and fast on Monday.
So that is why he plays. If he sucks again, get the Bulin wall before goaltending costs us a playoff spot and let him battle Andersson the rest of the way and in the playoffs.
No one told him to slash his finger off cutting frozen chicken.
Come to think of it, since Auld failed and has been a huge fail all year forcing Andersson to play virtually every game......start Lehner and see what you got.
I think Lehner can plug the hole till Anddy gets back, maybe even more.
i thought auld made lots of saves when it was 2-1, 3-1 to keep us in the game. that softie was the difference though. he didnt make the save to win it, but its hard to hang this one on him.
Auld was crappy at parts tonight but good in other parts. Overall what I'd expect. Makes a few tricky saves, stops the ones he should, lets in the ones he shouldn't and lets in a softy. Close games like this the softy can cost you two points which it may have tonight.
I'd probably go with Lehner tomorrow. Give Lehner the second of the back to back and judge him against a relatively weaker team where we should be able to win regardless. Personally, I see Lehner as the bigger game changer even at this time in their careers. I think Lehner can be a complete beast if he's put up to the challenge while Auld will be consistently under-average.
You have to give each a game before the deadline to see where we are at.
If they both tank, I wouldn't be surprised if Murray went after a guy like Ben Bishop, Curtis Sanford or even Dwayne Roloson to try and help us out a little bit.
Short of a shutout, Lehner should start the next game. Even with a shutout.
You need to see what both can do before the deadline. And let's be honest. Lehner against Boston is still probably a loss. Lehner is going to have a good chance to get his team a win tomorrow. Knowing that you need to start both goalies, this is how I would have set it up too.
i couldn't pick either option because they don't reflect my reasons.
I say it's Auld who will start on a short leash because
1- He's the senior man... blah blah... team chemistry and such
2- Some of the goals were very much on the D and forwards
3- He didn't play Lehner in the 3rd to see how good he might be although it would have been hard to bench Auld in his 1st game as the team's #1 goalie.
4- Stache is slow to go to rookies unless he has no choice
That said if Auld falters badly against the NYI expect to see him replaced with Lehner before the 3rd period. At least Stache would have just cause to use the rookie without blaming Auld and claiming it was just to get the team refocused. If he plays really well even if it's too late to save the 2 points Lehner might get the Bruins on Tuesday.
Auld deserves at least one more shot at being the go to netminder while Anderson is out. Don't like his game very much this year, but he should better than Lehner; if not then let the kid have a go at it.
It would be silly to throw Auld under the bus after losing to Boston: we haven't beaten Boston in almost 2 years.
