I don't care if the third goal was a snipe or not, Dubie's gotta make the timely save when the team needs him. All kinds of pressure and then the other team comes down and capitalizes. Predictable

They have an NHL goalie. We do not. They are a playoff team and we aren't till we get an NHL goalie.

Win and you're in. Next game Danis in, Dubnyk out. Kruegar in, Renney out. lol

blah.

uneventful much....?

If you can't get people to come to games, why not play a type of hockey that would make people want to show up.

Man, The Yotes are soo boring, I think as a organization they are shooting them selves in the foot. Play boring enough to make the playoffs and get knocked out in the first round. They seem to be in that cycle.

Good to see Nuge score.

I hate to say it because it's been said so often the past few years, but that's a loss the Oilers can build on. The effort was there, they just need to learn how to play against teams like that. It's dissappointing to lose, but I take solace in that they didn't quit. (and that they dogs put some space between them and the Flames...)

That being said, what a frustrating game.
And I'm with Moonlapse Vertigo. I hate Whitney and I hate Doan.

So are you saying that every goal against better be a perfect shot.

Smith should have totally had the Nuge goal then.

The first one was deflected twice and was going well wide before Petry put it in. The 2nd was a nice move and goal by Whitney.

Sam Gagner looked pretty bad tonight. He struggles in tight checking games where his space is quickly taken away like it was tonight.

Smith played very good. We had as many chances today as we did in the Chicago games this season.

Ebbs gags smyth were horrible. Once MPS was put on that line it was ok. Smyth is too slow to play with the kids on a daily basis.

Hemmer and RNH played awesome. Hemmer has to realize that he is playing with more skilled people and needs to pass sooner

I thought that the Oilers played well in the last 30 minutes or so but it's too tough to come back against a team like Phoenix. If Dubnyk doesn't let in that weak 2nd goal, the game is completely different but a 2 goal deficit against Phoenix is too tough to overcome.

I thought that the Nuge line looked great, so glad to have Hemsky here for the next couple of seasons. It's amazing that RNH can come back from injury and immediately have a great game, what a player. The Gagner line had their struggles but they have been so good that it's hard to complain too much.

Better to shoot than to do the pirouette at the blueline...and then watch the play go back to our end. Hello Hemsky.

QFT.

Someone in the game thread called Hemsky and Nuge combining for a goal too.

I'm not too disappointed.

A few things I'd like to point out:

- I don't know what happened, but this team over the course of the season has gotten better at cycling the puck. Make no mistake, today we controlled the boards in a big way against a team who plays with strong fundamentals, which includes puck protection and board play. Really impressed with this improvement as the season progresses.

- We really could use an offensive D-man from the backend. Whitney looks to be quicksand and isn't really that guy anymore. Gilbert has taken more of a defensive role. A guy like Vish or Karlsson or Green could've been the difference for us tonight.

- It's absolutely amazing to think we have 3 all world offensive talents on this team in RNH, Eberle and Hall. Amazing.

- Smid, Petry and Gilbert all represent good development of his team aside from the forwards. I have to give Steve Smith some props. His work with defensemen is paying off. The aforementioned 3, and Peckham have really helped. Those 3 look good defensively. Smid looks like a new player. Good along the cycle, smart hitting, blocking shots and pinching in smart situation (take note Whitney).

- Bummed with Dubnyk's performance, but this is part of a young goalie's development. It's completely random and some goalies find their game in their late 20's. It is what it is.

Regardless, onwards and upwards.

We won't be a playoff team until we get an NHL goalie, couple NHL defensemen, and an NHL coach.

I understand why Phoenix plays the way they do, but they'll always be first round fodder. The elite teams in the NHL will break through their system.

Thought Eberle had a bit of an off game today.

Not to say he was bad but he fumbled a lot of pucks and missed a lot of chances which I'm not used to seeing him do this year.

I actually liked this game. PHX is playing some great hockey right now and they played a great defensive game. We kept fighting and had some good chances to tie it.

1st line looked really good. Hemsky is finally deking guys again.

Whitney was just awful today and Dubynk should have had that 2nd goal.

Yeah you can tell over the course of a 7 game series, that system would crack and break.

Our kids were starting to find more and more cracks in it as the 2nd and especially the 3rd period wore on.

IMHO, This is an excellent system but it collapses quite easily if you have strength to make hits left and right. We are not that team. That's why we are having such a hard time playing them.

The rest of your post is irrelevant when the goaltender fails to show up for the game.

I agree however - the cycle is finally being worked by all the lines. We hemmed in the Coyotes on multiple shifts. Too bad the team was reduced to scrabbling to make up goals that should never have gone in.
