Hesmky carries the puck into the offensive zone...his forwards follow into the offensive zone awaiting a play...Hemsky turns the puck over at the blueliine...the opposition has multiple players going back to our end while our forwards are caught in the offensive end. Why would you want a player to give up these situations when you defense is suspect and your goalie is fighting the puck?
This "style" of play is counterproductive and creates multiple chances for the other team. It isn't that hard to see if you are watching game.
Offensive players turn the puck over more because they have the puck more. Malkin has 50 giveaways this season. The next closest Pens forward is Jordan Staal with 18.
Where has Malkin given up the puck? At the blueline?
Thanks for you kindergarten response...I don't hate Hemsky. I believe he gives us a solid top two lines. He has to stop giving up the puck 5 feet over the blueline.
Ebs' worst game in recent memory, what was with the half a$$ chips off the wall that never got out?
Hemsky looked decent
Petry excites me in an entirely non-schlomo way
Hall shooooooooooooot. Breakaway, 2 on 1, whatever, shoot for gods sake.
Really love the way Petry skates with the puck. I can see him being a full time Oiler.
well he is...so....

this seriously.
i know he aims for 5 a game. lets try aiming for 15.
I agree the second one was weak, but youre being ridiculous if you think the 1st was his fault, if you want to blame someone, blame eberle for letting the dman have a clean shot on goal.
So you're blaming Dubnyk because our D sucks?
Rational.
No. I'm saying with our crappy D, this team can't afford to have average goaltending. Semantics
Wow. Sure Gagner wasn't great, but neither was Eberle. Honestly I thought Smyth was dragging down that line, he's too slow and old to do much with them.
Bingo, they should've started with Paajarvi or Eager there. Smyth needs to be shown the 3rd line with Horcoff because that's where he belongs from here on out.

Ouch - I'm agreeing with you! Smyth should not be on that line with the way MPV played again tonite.

The Hemsky line has been creating more chances than they have been giving up.
It seems like you choose to nitpick parts of Hemsky's game because you're not a fan of him which is fine but you're showing a clear bias.
Hemsky has been really good for a while now, it isn't that hard to see if you're watching the game.

It isn't hard to see that Hemsky coughs up the puck at the blueline multiple times a game. Too bad your bias doesn't allow you to acknowledge that if you have been watching him throughout his career.
I will never EVER get over the fact that the Oilers took Steve Kelly before Shane Doan.
(I know I know also before Iginla, but everybody knew Doan was going to be a success)
Steve Kelly is currently selling shoes at Walmart in Sudbury or something.....

Smyth can probably handle the 3rd line but Horcoff is a borderline 4th line player at this point.
Meh, after that Salo-esque 2nd goal by Dubnyk I decided I had a pretty good idea where this game was going to go, so I took off and clean out my wood stove chimney. Kinda glad I did.
I'm still in a decently good mood about this team though; Hemsky's still an Oiler and RNH looks good and had a nice goal. Better feeling than the last couple of seasons at the same time of year for sure.
Now if they could just fix the goaltending...IMO that's the #1 issue to address on this team now. Dubnyk hasn't shown me anything to think he's an improvement over previous pretenders like Conklin, Markkanen, Garon, Deslauriers, Morrison etc.
Hemsky was the best Oiler forward on the ice today. Really in a zone and able to make things happen against a stellar Coyotes club.
As far as our wunderkids they need games like this, and a lot of them, to get that much better. I really enjoy seeing some proper team play. This is supposed to be the best league in the world and yet so many players and teams play like **** on most nights. No passengers on this Coyotes squad. You can see why they are winning games.
Conversely an immensely talented team like the Blackhawks we beat up for fun because the Hawks are playing some questionable hockey on a lot of nights.
Gilbert with just an outstanding pass to Hemsky late in the game to almost knot the score. Tom doesn't get a lot of love on this board but he thinks the game well.
Tonight we needed to play more north south hockey instead of getting fancy and didn't. The kids time and time again tried to pass it through coverage. What works on a lot of nights won't work against dedicated team play. Yotes had all the lanes covered, won a lot of puck battles, and pressured us all over the ice. Also note the Yotes forwards were owning us at the offensive blue line. The plays where we like to bring the D into the play weren't workign because Coyotes forwards were sitting on that spot up high a lot. Thats specifically to counteract what we do well. Just clinical performance.
Lots to appreciate in a well played game like this.
I don't know how anybody can pin the first goal on Dubnyk. The second goal, absolutely. But the first goal just pinballed off two guys and in. It was flukey as hell, not something you can pin on the goalie, in my humble opinion.
I actually really enjoyed watching the game. That Tippett defensive system is a thing of beauty. Phoenix doesn't exactly play boring hockey-- they're physical, they're fast on offense, they forecheck hard. They just split the ice into a right wing and a left wing, and nobody is allowed to pass or cross that middle point-- it makes it extremely difficult for teams to set up. But they have to make appropriate adjustments. In the 2nd, they started sending the high d-man down low, and that winger up high for a one-timer. Ebs got a good one off, and I think Hall fired one over the net as well. In the 3rd, they started alternating between that play and the 'fire and crash' one where the player with the puck would fire from the offside slot and two forwards would crash the net with a d-man crashing the high slot, and the other d-man or centre covering back.
Both strategies worked, they just didn't do them for long enough. Really just the last 5 minutes in the 2nd and the last 7 or 8 minutes in the 3rd.
