I just dont see GMGM LTIR'ing Backs even if they know he wont be playing until the playoffs or the season. That means you have to move Knubs, Schultz and Hamrlik. Then this so called 2C move. SO basically you have to make at LEAST two trades most likely three before making the one to improve the team. 4 trades tomorrow? So not going to happen.
Obviously but I dont see them parting with a 1st for Vokoun. If Bryz wasn't freaking awful they would be pretty damn good so losing a d-man for a goalie that would be better then relying on Bryz the rest of the way. Aren't one or both of Carle or Kimo UFAs this year as well? Or am I making that up?
* hotstove mentioned toronto might be looking for a goaltender. they didnt know who they might be interested in but knew they would not be interested in vokoun.
* contending teams like the flyers dont trde their pending ufa's at the deadline. they trade for more of them. if they are so unhappy with them as to want them gone, ala hamrlik, why would the caps want them?
the flyers have been stinking it up of late. the devils lost to tampa bay today. tampa bay has been stinking it up as well. boston has been struggling. then you have toronto and the islanders and so on....are you really quaking in your boots or just not paying attention?

You forgot to mention that Detroit has lost at home this season, so that's a possible win as well. Hell, we should run the table.

the flyers are 5-6-1 in february. they are in 5th place in the east and 1 pt from 7th place. bruins are 5-7-1 in february. two of the wins are shootout wins. neither of these teams have been juggernauts of late. the islanders are the islanders after the trade deadline and the leafs...well, you saw the leafs last night.
now which of these teams reminds you of detroit at the joe again?
2011 - Arnott, Wideman
2010 - Walker, Belanger, Jurcina, Corvo
2009 - Handcuffed by Nylander
2008 - Huet, Fedorov, Cooke
McPhee is an active player at the trade deadline. He sucks at almost every other aspect of his job. Let him have this one.
Thank you for posting this.
McPhee has done something every year he had cap space. The idea that he will do nothing because he always does nothing isn't just wrong; it's patently ridiculous.

Compared to the Caps, who are also 5-7-1 in February, both of them.
I just dont get the idea of trading 90 for anything short of being part of a really big trade bringing in an established skilled player that fits a need.....who is not a rental
He is going to be a player. I agree he looks better on wing currently....but he has legit top 6 potential
Im not surprised people are ready to move him or dont see this upside.....several people were looking at a 50 point season for him....I figured that was a bit optimistic. Now that it looks like he wont hit that....well, he inst the answer and I guess never will.
He is better this season than last.....That, IMO, is sure to continue
