I remember in his first season with the Rangers, he and Del Zotto both seemed like very promising defensive prospects. Del Zotto obviously had the better season, but Gilroy did enough to turn some heads, including mine.

Gilroy is slightly more offensive than Lee. Starting to think he's a bit of an upgrade.

Lol @ the Bolts website. They have Zack Smith's picture in the Lee/Gilroy slide trade

I'd like to see one more defenseman, preferably one who can play the left side at the NHL level.

Erik Karlsson didn't even know who Brian Lee was when asked last week. This won't hurt the chemistry or anything so, I'm good with it.

Picard was not bad offensively either. We needed a defensive defenseman, and Lee was doing a good job at that. We have more than enough offense from the blue line.

Come now, no one deserves to be compared with Picard.

Gilroy wasn't that much better then Bergeron defensively most Tampa games I got to watch.

I was saying that Gilroy can do everything Lee could do plus a bit more. It's a fine trade...

I think if you want to read ANYTHING into this deal, it's that Lee was NOT in Ottawa's plans going forward.

Gilroy on TSN now...

It is a minor upgrade imo, and that is totally fine for a 5-6th dman trade. What else should we expect to get in that position? If Gilroy chips in a little more offensively and doesn't make any more mistakes than Lee made, why not?

Maybe when someone sent the Tampa people Lee's picture, they thought it was a prank, sending them a picture of a kid.

So this is pretty much the only place I can get trade updates as TSN and the trade boards aren't updating for me...

PMD that can make plays. I like it! Sounds like a solid guy who will fit in chemistry wise.

Let's do it Matt!

Gilroy on Team 1200

- A little bit worried he will stare into Maclean's mustache while they speak... like with waitresses and cleavage

- Likes to give the puck away, just so he can register a take-away stat.... (host told him that NHL also records give-aways and this was met with silence)

- Name is actually pronounced "Gilles-Roi"

- Glad to bring some "colour" to the team (a shot a Lee??)

With the way our d-corps has been set up, I think this trade hinges on how well he meshes with the Big Rig.

Phillips worked well with Chara and Volchenkov, and eventually Lee, but sucked balls with everyone else we tried. If he works out, Phillips could make him look like a top-4 guy and if they don't mesh, then we have an open spot on our bottom pairing next season.

Basically, Murray felt that the bottom pairing wasn't working (and it hasn't this year) so he made change.

Meh.
