It's not going to be fun playing Buffalo with Hodgson over the next few years. He'll be a very good 2nd line center down the road for them.

As you can imagine, the Canucks board isn't all too happy.

I will never understand trading high-end center prospects

Kassian is a really good player, Canucks shouldn't be that upset IMO.

Hodgson sounds shocked. Not so great for us to have him in the division now, could be a tough guy to stop down the road.

Hodgson sounds taken completely off guard by this. Entertaining stuff.

I think Gilroy a right shot will end up being the replacement for Gonchar who will be in the last yr of his contract next season. After a yr in Ottawa I think they are hoping that he will be the puck moving defenceman who can add some offence to replace Gonchar`s numbers. I would guess that Gilroy is already better then Gonchar defensively.

From cup contenders to the mess that is the Sabres. That's gotta suck.

Not a fan of Kassian. Great trade by Buffalo.

3 goals and 7 points in 27 games for Kassian this season. Should get plugged right into the Nucks line up. You have to think that's a downgrade to their line up right now.

Buffalo takes this trade though, Hodgson will be more of an impact player.

Buffalo made out very well... managing to grab both Hodgson and a 1st in one day.

Oh fun. Lets listen to Fester talk about how finishing 9th every year without trading guys is the best way to go.

division:

B's added depth for the POs. Doesnt change much for us, if we play them they were much better than us anyways.

Buffalo did a great job: Gragnani, Kassian, Gaustad, 4th for Hodgson, Sulzer, 1st (NSH). Totally see them pulling an 'ottawa' next year.

Montreal got a 2nd in 2013 for kostitsyn - ho hum. I think they needed a more major fire sale and they still look like a team that needs 2-3 years to bottom out.

Toronto got a 2nd line winger for the future, at the expense of a 2nd pairing dman for the future. Treading water might lead to another 9th place finish here. Think Burke should have been decisive one way or another.

Ottawa: We traded lee for gilroy and a 2nd for bishop. Bishop replaces auld next year, gilroy needs to be re-signed but can be a #4 for us next year.

I will argue the opposite, Kassian brings some much needed size & toughness to Vancouver`s lineup which everyone in hockey has said they needed & will give Bieska a break from having to be the guy who drops the gloves all the time. Not sure where they will play Kassian but it wouldn`t surprise me to see him play with the twins in the playoffs on some shifts.

Hodgeson was playing behind Sedin & Kesler & was not going to get the much needed ice time he needs to develop. In Buffalo he will get that but I`m a little surprised that Buffalo traded their tough guys when they play Boston a lot more often than Vancouver does.

I personally like Ashton a whole lot, I saw him play like 10 times in Tri City. He's so calm with the puck. Great hands and size. It's unfortunate I have to hate him now haha

You can tell Hodgson really liked Vancouver. And really, from a Cup contender to an out of the playoffs team in a worse hockey market. Ouch!

Steal of the day easily. Hogdson is upset, Canuck fans are pissed. If Van doesn't win the Cup this year, heads will roll.

Jay Fester Press Conference:

We are not willing to do anything because if we pray on a shooting star enough, someday we may sneak into the playoffs and go on a Cinderella run.
