I think Gilroy a right shot will end up being the replacement for Gonchar who will be in the last yr of his contract next season. After a yr in Ottawa I think they are hoping that he will be the puck moving defenceman who can add some offence to replace Gonchar`s numbers. I would guess that Gilroy is already better then Gonchar defensively.
B's added depth for the POs. Doesnt change much for us, if we play them they were much better than us anyways.
Buffalo did a great job: Gragnani, Kassian, Gaustad, 4th for Hodgson, Sulzer, 1st (NSH). Totally see them pulling an 'ottawa' next year.
Montreal got a 2nd in 2013 for kostitsyn - ho hum. I think they needed a more major fire sale and they still look like a team that needs 2-3 years to bottom out.
Toronto got a 2nd line winger for the future, at the expense of a 2nd pairing dman for the future. Treading water might lead to another 9th place finish here. Think Burke should have been decisive one way or another.
Ottawa: We traded lee for gilroy and a 2nd for bishop. Bishop replaces auld next year, gilroy needs to be re-signed but can be a #4 for us next year.
I will argue the opposite, Kassian brings some much needed size & toughness to Vancouver`s lineup which everyone in hockey has said they needed & will give Bieska a break from having to be the guy who drops the gloves all the time. Not sure where they will play Kassian but it wouldn`t surprise me to see him play with the twins in the playoffs on some shifts.
Hodgeson was playing behind Sedin & Kesler & was not going to get the much needed ice time he needs to develop. In Buffalo he will get that but I`m a little surprised that Buffalo traded their tough guys when they play Boston a lot more often than Vancouver does.
