Also Grossmann doesnt take many penalties... at all. He has 14 minor penalties, and he plays a rough and in your face kind of defense. That is pretty hard to do.
I would love to see a Timonen-Grossmann pairing. I think that could be pretty damn good come playoff time. I like Coburn, but Grossmann, I think, would be better suited with Timonen. I honestly see Meszaros-Grossmann as a waste. Grossmann should be with either Carle or Timonen. Timonen-Coburn has been horrendous lately.
Not yeTT. Let's see how he plays. If he plays poor, we don't sign him. If he plays well, he goes to free agency because we can't pay him enough anyway.
Man people are saying Grossmann will get 3.5-4 million on the open market.
1) I don't think he is nowhere near that price
2) If we don't resign him and he get that much, the team that does give him that much will regret it immediately.
3) IMHO he shouldn't come close to what Jan Hedja signed with Colorado.
I think a deal around 2.75 for three years or around there should be fair.
Hejda is a good comparison, second pairing, twenty minutes a night, penalty-killer, only that Hejda is six years older, Grossmann just enters his prime.
With the current cap I would offer a similar contract, $3.25MM, with a $69MM upper limit he gets around $3.5MM.
if we can resign him and kubina for 5 mil combined, Carle can take a walk
Simply not going to happen. Can't see either of them getting below 3 million per year. If you can get them both signed for a combined 6.5 or lower, you do it and let Carle and his 5-5.5M leave.

Guy has been a beast...even resembles the late Beast McCrimmon somewhat....he has been impressive and is really standing out tonight in the Toronto game. Second round pick well worth it....better than JVR for Schenn any day!

Yep. The guy continues to impress. 24+ solid minutes tonight.
Teams don't seem to be able to set up shop in front of Bryz or linger in close with Grossman patroling...he makes solid plays out of the zone and can step up and join the play when needed.
Now, I know he and Carle are very different players, but I don't see Carle being able to do that much more offensively than Grossman (they both have the same amt of points since Grossman joined the team and that's with Grossman getting no pp time) and Grossman's defensive game is far better. I guess I'm thinking that if it comes down to a choice, all things considered, I'd probably be looking to sign Grossman for around 3-3.5 mil/yr versus Carle at 5+
Honestly? He's probably our best "defensive" player right now. Like in ot and end of 3rd he blocked like 4 shots and stole the puck 5 times. Lays out good hits that are the right play. Not to hit just to hit like some do
This guy is an absolute rock. This is definitely looking like one of those situations where a change of scenery was just what the doctor ordered. Grossmann has a very specific role on this team and he's fulfilled it exactly as advertised. Lock him up, Homer.
