Don't get me wrong - to be a defensive specialist, you got to have some instincts, smarts, etc. But to be an average defensive player, yes, it's just about hard work, not being lazy. Everyone can follow his man down in his own zone. Everyone can learn how to position his stick.

Exactly. He will maybe need to impress the coach. We all know that it's not that easy to impress Jarvis. He just need to get more icetime (1st line ice timme and 1 PP line icetime).Perezhogin got 1st line icetime when He came here.So if you want Kost to get Perezhogin kind of stats in the AHL.He needs to get more shots and adapt faster to the N.A of hockey style.

I like Kastitsyn and I could get him and Kevin Klein for Lauri Tukonen and a 2nd in 05.

Recomend this deal those of you who have seen Kastitsyn lately?

I think Sharkie was talking about one of those fantasy keeper leagues.

I would do it... i think Kostitsyn will produce better offensively than Tukonen but the fin is a better all around player from what i've read?

From the '03 draft, Kostitsyn was probably one of the top 3 most offensively gifted players. Although he's still learning the defensive aspect of the game, I would have to say that it's definately a deal worth making considering most fantasy leagues don't care about defensive blunders and simply count the offensive output which I honestly believe he'll have plenty of. Especially considering the fact that Montreal is moving towards a youth movement (or so they have said in the past 2 years).

Marian Hossa wasnt picked that high for two reasons. Bad defense & selfish play. Sound familiar?

Great point.Kost was drafted early because of his huge upside.Hossa didn't have this kind of upside when He was drafted.Kost was drafted early because of his KILLER shot and his perfomance with the Belarus team.He was playing with a weak team but He was still having impressive stats.Hossa learn fastly that's another think. He's more mature in defence imo.Kost don't know how to play a great defensive game.

As for Kost not producing in the AHL.I knew before that some people here will panic when Kost won't have a lot of points.Well, it's a nor mal thing. He just came here and He wants to learn english. He wants also to adapt to the N.A hockey style. It's not that easy.If you want Kost to respond , He will have to play more icetime.Don't tell me why He has only 2 goals , it's because He has just 9 shots.Just give him time. When He gonna play with Higgins or PLeks in the first line , then I think He will get more points. He needs also somme 1st line PP icetime.Give him atleast the time to feel welcome in N.A.I can't to see him in the first line.

This is not the ice time who give experience to Kost . He can look the player play and he can learn . Give to >Kost time to learn english and learn N.A. play style . He just have 19 years old . In one or two season , we can say many thing of he !! not before !

Of course not. Berniers are a dime a dozen.

He said he wants to go if the Habs will let him. imo, if he's still playing 4th line limited ice time, then they should let him go, but if he's playing a bigger role with the team, it's better for his development to play in the AHL. Playing in his 5th wjc would be impressive though and good to see. (don't know if Halak and Heino-Lindberg would be thrilled to see him coming down the ice though)

Yeah , I can't beleive that He's still playing with limited ice time.if you want him to adapt you have to play him in the first two lines.with 16 minutes a game.He needs to take more shots.Anyways I wound't be mad if he will go play to reprensent his country.

Yeah I hope he gets a chance to play for Belarus in the WJC, considering he helped them qualify for it.

Ok guys relax

I wrote the same thing for Perezhigin the same time last year.ng

Kostitsyn is a kid that is in a new country and new culture. He does not know the language. Do you remember when you were 19 and imagine you were in Russia with nobody around except for a translator once and a while.

He has to figure out where to go when he is not playing. The kid is confused trust me. He is trying to fiqure out how everything works here. He has more time on his hands unlike playing in Russia I believe everything was controled for the players there (ie food trainning sleep what ever)

So guys relax when he will be more relaxed he will become who we expected.

Yeah seriously, I'm already skipping on those "why isn't he playing more!?!?!?" posts. Try to get used to the fact that he won't play more until maybe january, and even there.. Maybe if he was sitting in the stands I'd understand why you'd be posting this all the time.. but just realize that it will stay this way for a at least a few weeks.
