Is Gagner likely to develop
into a legit 2C? If there is 50% chance of that the Caps ought to be interested. The Oilers have a lot of talent at F. Maybe they'd benefit by trading an F for a D. But I don't see the Caps giving up Green, Alzner, Carlson or Orlov. So why would EDM do it? Unlikely.

A 1st rounder, a solid young D or Johansson IMO would be what would interest us. That said right now I'm thinking that a mid first for Gagner wouldn't bee too good from the Oilers side unless it was at the draft and we had a center taken with our top pick.

One of those names, or Tambo doesn't even entertain the idea. Doubt it would happen though.
The Oilers can still try to land a defenseman via free agency this summer. I'd much rather they moved picks and prospects to do it too. Gagner still fits the rebuild strategy considering his age and production as a 2nd liner.
so...eklund posts something and the result is this? the caps trde their young top 5 pick shutdown defenseman and their 20/21 year old center? come people.
the caps wouldnt trade alzner for pronger. now that he is what they hped for they wont be trading him for anyone. johansson either.
why are we even talking about this? eklund is never accurate. nobody ever sees mcphee's actual moves ahead of time. combine the two and you get complete fiction
So, Mojo only has 6 pts less than Gagner, and from what I have seen is better defensively. He is s a much cheaper cap hit, and a year younger (miniscule value). Yet the Caps throw in a second and Alzner?
If Caps are throwing in Mojo it will be for a significant vet upgrade.
I would do;
Wideman, and our 1st for Gagner.
or Wideman, Eakin, 2nd

To me this seems like a real no-brainer, at least on the Caps side. Gagner is better than Johanssen, and the team doesn't have a timeline on Backstrom's return. As a long term option for #2 centre, you can certainly do worse than a talented guy like Gagner.
The question is -- what are they prepared to give up? The upgrade from MJ to Gagner isn't worth losing Alzner, and Wideman is of no value to the Oilers. Maybe an Orlov + Holtby gets it done? The caps don't have a very good prospect pool.

He isn't that much of an upgrade that he is worth giving up Holtby (who many consider better than Neuvy), and Orlov (who I like more than Carlson).
And it is Eklund on the Caps, so this isn;t happening anyway. Still waiting for his OV to Nashville rumor from a few yrs back.
I think it might have something to do with his play before his hot streak and where abouts the oil have been sitting in the standings the last few years with him as a second line center. You can stick any skill player in that role and it may not equal wins even if that player puts up the points. Look at Grabovski..hes a 2nd line center...just on a losing team.
I do think Gagner would benefit playing for a team like the caps and Hunter again.
How does Gagner compare to Brassard? stats wise? These are types of players the caps will have to aquire I feel if they want a center...and hopefully they breakout.
Do you mean the 20 points he had in his first 30 games after coming back from a ankle sprain....before his "hot streak"?

How is he defensively? Not flaming but I dont see alot of wins coming out of the oil change and while hes putting up good stats is he a key component to allowing goals?
