Wow. So that game changes a lot. Do we trade our first to bring in a top 6 asset now?

No. No way we can trade our first after all that's been said.

Huge win but it's just one win (well four in a row really).

Let's be honest here. We you KNOW Joe thinks this is a playoff team now, and it's not like we draft well in the first round anyways. PLUS it's a defensive heavy draft, just food for though.

The positional composition of certain projected stretches of the draft shouldn't make a difference if they really believe in BPA.

Dallas management has to be honest with themselves and admit that this isn't a perfect team or even a serious contendor for the cup. If there's a good deal to be had which will set this team up for the future it has to be made.

Don't think this was posted.

TSNBobMcKenzie Of course teams like DAL and COL are thinking about playoffs, but they're also thinking about how to build a team that can truly contend.

TSNBobMcKenzie That's why DAL is "considering" Steve Ott offers and not telling teams, no way we trade Ott during playoff battle. Micro vs. macro debate.

Would be all sorts of weird if we played vancouver in the first round and Ott was playing for the canucks

You'd have time to get use to it as he would play against us 3 more times before the season is over.

Funny to think about that if Ott got traded tomorrow to Vancouver, and we somehow got into the playoffs to play the Nucks, we could face Ott a possible 10 times this season. 0_0

I doubt Ott goes to Vancouver for exactly that reason.

Do not want. If he goes, he goes east. Unless Hodgson is coming back, then I could handle it

It would be foolish not to trade Ott to Vancouver, if they had the best offer just so you don't have to face him. You accept the best offer out there regardless of what division or if it's a possible playoff opponent. It's not like this team is a contender for the cup.

SunGarrioch Belief in some circles: The Canucks are team that will overpay the most to get Steve Ott if he's moved. Colorado in the mix. #NHL

All this Steve Ott trade talk, watch him not be moved. I have a feeling we won`t do anything special. I hope we do though. Guess we will just have to wait and see

Watch nothing happen tomorrow. A couple minor trades, that's it. Nash and Ott stay put.

I can't imagine Colorado wanting Ott after acquiring Downie, and there's no way in hell we give him to them unless we get a major upgrade with them so close behind us.

Sounds more to me like Garrioch misread McKenzie's post that listed Dallas and Colorado in the same breath and talked about Ott. I very much doubt the Avs are in the mix there.

I don't know what the hell they'd want to do with Ott. I think Downie is more gifted than Ott offensively and the dude seems like an agitator. Admittedly I don't watch him a lot so I'm going off of reputation.

I'd rather they move Robi before Ott. Maybe deal them both to Vancouver for Hodgson (I can dream) and a Vancouver salary dump.

My 2012 Trade Deadline Predictions

Earlier this morning, this story wasn't behind the paywall. I should have read all of it then.

Heika has quotes from GMJN saying nothing changes with their philosophy based on a 4 game win streak. They want roster players who can help now and in the future.

I predict 1 desperate team will make a largely lateral move with Dallas that hurts their center depth but allows them to acquire JVR. I'm going wait on a ledge instead of my usual pretty conservative approach.

Nashville is desperate to make a big move IMO to persuade Suter and Weber to commit long term. The GM has already said they are willing to move assets.

IMO, Jonathon Blum should be available. I'm probably biased, but I think Larsen is probably better than Blum. I think you make a trade with Nashville to acquire him so that you can offer Blum or Larsen up with Ott to land JVR. I think Phili fans are probably right that Glennie won't get it done. They all feel like a young D is what the demands will be.

Key Principles of the Trade

To Dallas: Jonathon Blum
To Nashville: Mike Ribeiro

To Dallas: JVR
To Philadelphia: Steve Ott, Philip Larsen or Jonathon Blum

Trying to Predict the trade

To Dallas: Jonathon Blum, Zach Budish, Nashville's 1st
To Nashville: Mike Ribeiro

To Dallas: JVR, Jody Shelly
To Philadelphia: Steve Ott, Philip Larsen or Jonathon Blum, DAL or NAS 1st

Yes Dallas hurts their center depth by moving Ribeiro without adding one, but they add a Top 6 scorer to the core long term. Larsen for Blum is a lateral move most likely. If one of them helps you land JVR, I could see Dallas do it. You're not risking defensive depth since you're bringing one guy in before flipping him for a potential core winger. Phili would have to send another contract with JVR since they receive 2 contracts, and IMO being willing to take Shelly off their hands adds value to the trade. He is a waste in Phili and will likely be the same in Dallas. I don't think Wandell has earned a 2nd line center role this year in reality, but he's good enough to fill in if you are improving yourself long term with JVR.

Final Guess

To Dallas: Michael Frolik
To Chicago: Adam Burish

To Dallas: 2nd Round Pick
To NHL Team: Sheldon Souray

Acquire Clitsome off waivers

I think Dallas takes a risk with Bottom 6 depth to try and acquire a guy who appears to be overpaid and under performing. GMJN does it because he's familiar with the player and thinks a bigger role will get him back to normal.

I think/hope Souray is in the same boat as Grossman. I'm probably reaching, but GMJN and Gully said trading Gross was not just an opportunity for Fistric for a bigger role but for Pardy to get going. With Souray return very soon to the lineup when those comments were made, that's not true unless he's going packing as well.

If Souray is traded, Clitsome is acquired as the 7th D to provide competition with Pardy.

I know that's just wild guessing, but I just want to see a bold move I guess.

This would work financially as well.

$10,750,000 is going out in annual cap hits, but $6,337,499 is coming back so Dallas is only sending out $4,412,501. I illus traded yesterday that Dallas can move just under $6 million today.

JVR-Benn-Ryder
Frolik-Wandell-Eriksson
Nystrom-Fiddler-Dvorak
Dowell/Petersen-Garbutt-Vincour
Shelley

Goligosk-Larsen/Blum
Fistric-Daley
Pardy/Clitsome-Robidas

Lehtonen
Bachman
