Congrats to Mike Commodore for getting dealt off a stanley cup contender to the 'Ning. that's rough for Commie, though now he might play some.

Also lol at the TSN commentators being so disappointed in the deal they rang the bell hesitantly and said "I guess it's worth a bell".

McKenzie is suggesting Ott could be a domino. My question: why? He's really not that great. Unless I've missed something...
Or maybe that's just a reflection on who's available.

Well, I know the Canes have been pretty bad this year but Ott would be tied for 4th in points on our team along with Ruutu. He's a good top 6 piece, or an elite 3rd liner.

He's one of those guys whose style of play is well-suited to the playoffs and he can help in a lot of areas.

Disagree. Gilbert is an overrated, offense-only guy. Schultz very underrated as an all-around d-man who will benefit being out of Minny. IMO.

I agree with Kev.. Oil's biggest problem was a pathetic defense.. this helps them..and Minny gets a guy to help their pp.
good deal for both.

They dont have 6 good dmen to actually play.....swapping one for another is not a step in the right direction. Schultz is a decent player but isnt as good as he was 2 years ago and he wont be loggin the minutes Gilbert does. Schultz isnt replacing Gilberts minutes which means more time for Petry, Peckham, and Barker. This is just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic. its not like Schultz is filling a hole...Smid and Sutton do alot of the same things.
And super classy of Edmonton to tweet the trade before Minnesota had a chance to tell Schultz.

This is one stunned, silent Locker room. Schultz is shaken, calling wife before he talks to media. #mnwild
You gotta feel bad for the guy. He seemed like he would be AND would WANT to be a Wild forever.
Good move by Edmonton though. Schultz is a good all-around guy, Gilbert hasn't really done anything...

McKenzie was just on TradeCentre saying Carolina will keep Allen and Spacek will be dealt. GMs calling have been told Allen is "no longer in play."
I understand why it would be helpful for the rest of this year, but I don't think this one makes sense long-term.

Nope. If we don't resign Allen I'm going to be pissed. JR better know what he's doing.

Makes no sense long term....unless he's trading McBain and or Pitkanen.

I think we could find a defensive-minded D who could pair with Gleason in July or via trade.

It sounded like they were pretty far apart on an extension based on JRs recent remarks - and I don't think that would change in the offseason when he has other teams in the mix that would easily put him out of our price range. So yeah, this would suck.
I wonder if he told JR he wasn't going to waive his NTC...

Allen has a no-trade clause. If he doesn't want to be dealt, JR doesn't really factor into it.

If JR didn't like the return, then maybe he thought he'd roll the dice on re-signing him in the offseason. You know, like Jokinen and Pitkanen before him.
Or, maybe Allen exercised his NTC? Does that carry over from Florida?
