I don't think they do. Weiss is a fine player and all but is a notch below Stastny. For all anyone knows, Garrisson's agent might be adamant about testing free agency so no help there. (you'd think the Panthers would want to keep him) So that just leaves a mid round pick which most likely won't help the Avs for the next 2-3 years or more. So unless he wants out and we absolutely NEED to deal him, I don't see this addressing any current need.

Colorado jumps at that, I think. It could be a 10-12 pick by the time the season is done, and Weiss is a good 2C (or 2C(B) behind ROR)).

On the other hand, I don't know that the gap between Weiss and Stastny is as big as Garrison + 2nd.
I don't want to speak on anything else in this topic, but I wouldn't say Garrison is just a PP specialist with a big shot. He's solid defensively, consistent, can be a workhorse for whatever team he's playing for, doesn't make a lot of costly mistakes, has a good outlet pass, and he knows when to jump in the rush. He's a good defenseman and has been for the past couple years. He's also improved every year. He's worth a $4M contract imo.

Obviously, I'm a Panthers fan, and I have a high opinion of Garrison. Take my post with a grain of salt if you must. He does have hands of stone, which can lead to some frustrating moments. I do wish he would use his big body more, but his defense focuses more on stick work.

Also, I'm only speaking about what kind of player Garrison is. His value does drop as he would only be a rental. I don't want to comment on the trade.

I think the deal is close but both teams could add to make it even better for both teams.

Kulikov is one of my favorite defenders outside of the Avs. I respect him a lot, but he is in no way shape or form worth more than Stastny. Due to the fact we need him more than Florida needs Stastny I'd add a 2nd or equivalently valued player/prospect, but not a whole lot more.

As for the other discussion, downgrading Stastny to Weiss and getting other stuff really doesn't do a lot for us currently. Garrison is nice, but why would Florida move him if he really is as good as advertised?

I like Garrison as a player. Him at $700k/year has probably been the best contract in the league the last couple of years.

But that's not really what is being offered. One and a half month of a good defender at a cheap contract and then a tricky negotiation is what is being offered.

My god this is a tragedy. Spare parts for Stastny.

How about:

Gudbrandson for Kevin Porter, Matt Hunwick & a 1st?

I really think something around Gudbranson or even Kulikov could work if you are really keen on Stastny , though.

Kuli or Gudbranson would take Duchene.

Stastny isn't worth that much.

Well i guess then you are not getting him.
Unless you want to hand over half of your prospect pool + 1st.

Stastny is a #1 Center. Look what Carter or Richards got. Gudbranson would be a great starting point.

Carter and Richards didn't get what you guys are asking for.. you guys are way off if you are comparing this to Carter and Richards.

Sorry for my fellow Avs fans behaviors. Let's do this pal!

To Florida:
Peter Stasny
Steve Elliott
1st 2013

To Colorado:
Garisson
Goc
2nd 2012

How do Florida fans feel about this one? Avs have to add?

It was a Florida fan that made the thread, YOU guys are the ones that WANT Stastny, if you don't like what we ask for then we're happy to keep him.

Carter got Voracek and Couturier and even after being a total misfit and desperately wanting to get out of there got JJ + 1st.
Richards got Schenn ( who was like the toprated prospect in the whole NHL last year) + Simmonds.

Stastny is comparable to both of them.
So why would Gudbranson be way off? Overrating him much? And I really like Guds. He is right handed anyways and not a perfect fit.
But If you dont want to mortgage your whole system one of Guds, Kuli or Huberdeau ( never gonna happen I know) would have to come back.

Totally agree, but yes, we do have to add. Stastny has such an awful contract I'm guessing we'd have to include something like Landeskog. He does not have much offensive talent and will most likely be a 2nd/3rd liner, but he's still a semi-decent piece.

OH I forgot about Stasny's (it's not Stastny -- that was his dad) $6.6 million contract.

Maybe a few extras. Not Landeskog though he's too good. Let's do Elliott and a 3rd.

No... Not really. It was also rumored that there was another reason for them being moved, and management wanted them gone. Something we don't gave with Stastny. May I ask how Courtier(defensively responsible, projects to be a #1 center) and Voracek(top 6 winger) does not equal Gubrandson? Or what about Schenn(considered best prospect in hockey at time) plus Simmonds? Even if you want to say Stastny is not as good as either of those players at the time of the trade, then what about when Carter was traded this week? His value was at an all time low yet he still fetched Johnson+1st. Asking for Gubrandson is MORE than fair.

Ah! My bad! Did not see Peter there! Elliot+3rd would probably help us move Stastny's contract, but we'd probably still have to add. Perhaps if we throw in Downie as well?

I don't get it. If we're giving up on this season, why aren't we at least adding something we need, and a late first round pick, a guy to compete with McClement, and a guy to compete with Stefan Elliot or Tyson Barrie, doesn't fit the bill. If the Avs aren't getting way overpaid for Staz I don't see them moving him for anything other than a young top pairing Dman to pair with EJ or young top line winger.

Avs need to add.

I mean a guy who was on waivers last year, a dman who has more goals this year than last 5 yrs combined and a pick in the 15 range for a usual ppg player, avs have to add no doubt.

If Florida wants Stastny ... one of these player needs to be included: Huberdeau, Gudbranson or Kulikov.
