Just get me a steady bottom pairing guy that wouldn't be a horrorshow and maybe a Black Ace type tweener for cheap to get Johnny Malkin to the press box and call it a day. Erskine and Boyes fit the bill.

For the life of me, I don't know why someone would take a day off for the trade deadline. There are more important things in life.

It seems that deadline day gets more and more boring every year.

Boyes is hurt and is not a very good bottom-6er

Because people often don't enjoy being at work and are looking for any kind or reason to not go.

I would take Boyes. He's still young and his value has never been lower. Buy low!

There was a time when it was exciting. I don't think it was the only reason to take off from work, but it was a major bonus.

Burn a day in my mountain of paid leave, have the house to myself, watch hockey stuff all day? Yeah, totally unappealing...

In my hypothetical scenario Boyes would play LW with Richards and Callahan. Hagelin goes to the 3rd line. If he's hurt then it's all moot, never mind.

Everybody's going to poker face each other so hard that they'll all forget to actually make any trades before 3.

Or you could take a day off for something better than a trade deadline that everyone knew would suck.

I took the day off, why not? Been boring as heck, but at least I'm not at work wasting the taxpayer's money monitoring TSN, HF and Twitter....

Deadline Day used to be awesome. It's still fun but deals would happen every 5 minutes. Very frustrating now.

Read the first part of this post and immediately thought of...

Now I can't hear my TV, thanks for reminding me about that song

Also I'm sure they're not, but if the Rangers are in on Ott, they better call up Avery too...and Deveaux, nobody would want to play this team...but then again, the Rangers goal-scoring woes would continue.

Looks like the Oilers trade Gilbert to Wild for Nick Shultz.

3-4th liners asking for 1sts?

Does that mean we can put Boyle or Mitchell on the block for a 1st?

Another puzzling move. Lateral move for both teams. Two overpaid shutdown defensemen on long term deals.

I wouldn't call Gilbert a shutdown d-man. He's pretty mobile and can put up solid points from the blue line.

Also, lol @ the NHL Network cutting to commercial just as the TSN panel is about to break the Gilbert trade.
