Loui Eriksson to Detroit

Let's pretend this would ever happen.

Filppula+Tatar+2013 1st?

They get a top 6 forward to make up for the loss on the roster, a pretty damn good prospect (Babcock said Tatar is the best guy in Grand Rapids, over Nyquist), and a first in a potentially better year.

What do you say? Maybe bump Tatar up to one of Nyquist or Smith?

Nope. Dallas would want one of two guys. You know who they are.

... just for context, I suggested the other day that JVR could be a piece in a package for Eriksson, and that notion was... less than politely... rejected by Stars fans.

He's saying that Eriksson is pretty much untouchable.

Doubt Dallas would move him, but that is a healthy package offered and by no means insulting.

He's saying that there would be no reason to move him for less than that....

No. I actually meant a clone of someone else. KH can do that, right?

No reason to move him to Detroit unless Datsyuk came back and we all know that isn't happening.

Why wouldn't there be? For example, if you can get a great prospect in the process and a roster forward to make up for it (and maybe this isn't the deal to offer the right ones), it might be worthwhile. I don't mean to be impolite, but the Stars aren't a powerhouse right now and have a few directions they can go with their roster. They could win a trade and not get the best (or second best) player in the league in return.

I could understand this reaction for Jamie Benn, but Eriksson? I'm surprised, I must admit.

..I'm not a Stars fan, so I'm not sure why I'm weighing in, but the other day, the consensus among some of their most... active?... posters was that the only thing they would take from Philadelphia for Eriksson is Giroux. Suggestions of JVR + 1st + prospect were ridiculed.

So, yeah, I'm going to go ahead and assume that they wouldn't take the OP. Eriksson is on a very good contract, and he's a strong two-way player, but I think it is one of those situations where a player means more to a team than he could ever return in a trade.

I love seeing JVR being thrown around these boards like he is anywhere near a top-line guy at this point in his career. So far, he looks more Blake Wheeler than Bobby Ryan. Not saying he will never get it going and show true 2nd overall potential, but he could very easily never get there.

No. Just no. You are underrating Eriksson and his team friendly contract big time.

Blake Wheeler is playing pretty well lately, so maybe JVR is in a (disappointing) class of his own now.

...which is why he was part of a package.

Hijack thread much?

The point, I think, is that JVR can reasonably be considered more valuable than the two players in the OP, and the reaction from Dallas fans was not warm.

A pick around 25th from Detroit or Philly is also not as enticing as a "1st" sounds. Its most likely to turn into a 3rd liner after about 5 years.

Right, but we're also talking about one of the top prospects in the game in Nyquist and a 27 year old two-way forward who's only 5 points behind Eriksson in scoring.

That's not chopped liver.

As a fan of none of the teams involved, I would take Eriksson straight up over any player on Detroit or Philly not named Datsyuk or Giroux.

It would be idiocy for Dallas to trade Eriksson for a package deal like the ones being described, and that's not even taking into account his contract (which is outstanding).

Would you consider trading Datsyuk for that package?

Of course not...it's not even close to getting a deal done. You're severely underrating Eriksson if you think that deal is even in the ballpark of enticing.

Why would it be idiocy to trade Eriksson for a package?

1. Eriksson is not lighting the world up (although he is playing well)
2. The Stars are not lighting the world up

If you can get a king's random (and I'm not saying this proposal is the right one), why not take a package deal? Are you trying to just say that you don't want the Stars to trade him? If so, I can understand completely. I'm just trying to say there are plenty of scenarios where the Stars could trade Eriksson for a package and be better off.
