Given that we are now in the final 24 hours counting down to the deadline, I think it would be a good idea to keep rumors, speculations and the deals other teams make in this thread. If the Canucks make a deal (or deals), we will open seperate threads for each one.
But in the mean time, please do not open a new thread to discuss each Canuck rumor. Keep all of that in here until such time as anything is confirmed as fact.
I've compiled a little list of players the Canucks have been linked to, and who did the linking;
Dustin Brown (Bob McKenzie)
Steve Ott (Bob McKenzie, Pierre LeBrun, Nick Kypreos)
Colby Armstrong (Darren Millard)
Travis Moen (Pierre LeBrun)
Cody McLeod (Adrian Dater)
Honestly, I don't think Ott, Nash or Brown are even going to be moved anymore at this point, and all this hubbub over the last week has been for nothing. I have no idea what to expect the Canucks will or CAN do in the next 24 hours.
I thought Raymond was one of our best forwards today and I really hope he gets re-signed tomorrow instead of dealt.
Weise getting hurt, with Bitz a question mark health-wise, makes things pretty interesting. Winnik would be a good plan if it's anything serious to Weise.
Any chance Robidas gets moved for prospects/picks? ie something like Rodin or a 2nd?
Well since 3 sources are saying the Canucks want Ott, let's assume that he is the type of player the bucks are targeting with the Ballard capcussion money.
Moen is clearly in this mold. I think you have to look at 1. Which teams are sellers and 2. Which players fit that Steve Ott type and 3. What are the teams secondary or depth needs with the remaining money and 4. Who are the Canucks willing to send the other way?
I'm thinking Ott is not going anywhere, as the Stars will think they're legit and have a chance at the playoffs now. Plus, they're expecting quite a bit it seems. I'd say Ott is more likely to come here then anyone else in the OP.
Brown isn't coming here, Moen is staying in MTL, Armstrong sucks big time, and McLeod is a terrible plug.
Yuck, anyone out there that's a Higgins/Lapierre this season?
In addition to having a list of players I'd like the Canucks to acquire, I have a list of players that I'd like us to, erm, "dis-acquire."
Foremost on the list of players I'd like are Ott or Brown.
Foremost on the list I'd like to trade is Manny Malhotra. To see him labour through this season, a shadow of the player that excelled for the Sharks and for most of last season (until his injury) is painful. Painful because he's obviously a great guy, and a well liked teammate, but also because he's a 4th liner -- at best -- who is being paid top 3rd line dollars. And we're on the hook for ANOTHER season of Manny. And he's got a no-trade contract. Ick, ack and double ugh.
I'd trade Mason Raymond for Ott if we could get Dallas to take Malhotra's contract in the deal too (if Malhotra agreed to it).
You're nuts. I am personally looking forward to just waking up at a normal time and enjoying that morning coffee with a little more to read than usual. Deals don't usually get made until after 8am our time anyways.

I've started to enjoy free agent day more than deadline day. Always seems like teams are shaped more often on July first. Draft day always comes first though.

The Manny situation is tough and he's so awesome to be around. He's not going anywhere because teams won't want him at that cap hit/decline in play. He will stick with us.

This. Do you think GM's on the West Coast will be up at 5am looking to make deals? Unlikely. They'll happen in the afternoon, or really late in the deadline when there's an hour or so left.

No. Stars want roster players, not an okay prospect and a pick.
