Nino Niedereitter

Hey Isles fans... I'm just a casual follower of your franchise. Watching the Sens game and I saw Neiderreitter in the lineup.. last I had heard he was out with a concussion or something? So I looked him up on NHL.com and saw he had played 38 games so far this season, and only had 1 goal and a -19 to show for it. Now stats don't tell a whole story. I've always liked Nino a lot.. can you knowledgeable fans educate me on what sort of seasons he's had? Is he playing a good role on the team? Clearly he's meant to provide some offense and hasn't, but what's his play in general been like? Is he merely missing a step due to injury?

1) Skating not up to par, yet.
2) Both injuries didn't come at the right time (missed some Camp and 1st month of the season...then got concussed where he showed some signs of putting it together)
3) Playing 6 minutes/game with Pandolfo, Reasoner and Wallace.

He has toiled away on the 4th line all year. They really have taken him along slowly. He's playing with pandolfo and reasoner...both completely ungifted offensively.

He really shouldnt be in the NHL. he's shown bursts of speed and has occasionally used his size fairly well...but he's really been outclassed. He's learning the ropes and this season has been wholly dedicated to learning how to play defense. He started off very poorly, racked up a -16 very quickly....the last 20 games or so i feel he's played a bit better...certainly more responsible defensively....and he's had some nice rushes down the wing...but other than that....nothing much to write home about.

I suspect there is a decent possibility he begins next year in the AHL....

This.....Hes to good for Junior and not ready for the NHL...

I wish they had exceptional status for the AHL....

He never should have played an NHL game this season. He needs to be back in juniors, and I'm hoping against all hope the NYI do the right thing & send him down after this game.

You're right, stats don't tell the story, but the only part of his game that is NHL ready is his size, strength & hitting ability. Rick DiPietro is outscoring him this season. Think about that.

I also strongly disagree with StrongIslander90 that he's too good for Juniors. 120 points in 130 junior games is very good. But it's not dominating. Not at that level. He needs to work on his skating, stickhandling, puck movement, defense, everything. Since the AHL was not an option for him, the NHL shouldn't have been one either. The guy is lost out there. He shows occassional flashes that he belongs, but he never shows flashes of brilliance.

Power Forwards especially need to be developed very slowly. Having him in the NHL now, is just delaying his eventual success. He shouldn't have sniffed the NHL till 2013-14 at the earliest.

That's too bad, I hate when players are rushed.. I hope his confidence isn't too rocked. Especially being on a struggling team.

Hopefully he gets everything back on track. Appreciate the responses.

Because he's not in the WHL. He should be.

He shouldn't of made the team in the first place. He was kept here because of his cap hit and his cap hit only. Because of that he's on the 4th line playing with scrubs like Marty Reasoner, Jay Pandolfo, and Tim Wallace.

It's not fair to the kid who wants to do well and it's not fair to the fans who want to see this kid succeed. He should've been sent to Juniors at the beginning of the season. This franchise bleeds incompetence.

I wonder if Parenteau is moved, will we see Nino spend a significant portion on the top line with JT and Moulson?

He was on that line all of the preseason and probably would have started the season on the line if he hadn't had the groin injury. When PA went to the locker room a couple of games ago, Nino had one shift with the big boys until Paps returned to the bench.

I'm curious about that. In any case, I would think Nino would be moved up a line or two (?) if Paps is dealt tomorrow. Not saying it's a good thing, but it is interesting to ponder.

Nino would look much better if he wasn't playing with Reasoner and Pandolfo. He is at least a step or two ahead of them every shift. If he was on any other line his stat line would look much much better.

When analyzing Nino this cannot be overlooked. Pandolfo and Reasoner could quite possibly be the 2 worst forwards (non-fighters) in the NHL. A huge failure by Snow wasting 2 roster spots like this and by playing Nino on the line. An even bigger failure by Capuano by thinking Pandolfo is actually valuable and not scratching him at all. I have a feeling Reasoner is played by default. The fact that the 4th line was out there at all in the last 10 mins of today's game is a disgrace.

This team needs to stop wasting roster spots.

Pandolfo
Reasoner
Eaton
Mottau
Jurcina
Staios

All of the players mentioned above are not good enough to be NHL players. Playing youngsters alongside these worthless players cannot be good for their development.

Is Jurcina that bad? I know he's not speedy but I thought he had some value for his size. But then I don't get to see nearly as many Islanders games as I'd like now that I dont have have Gamecenter anymore.

He is at best a number 5. He has no clue how to make a pass and gets beat on the rush quite often. Once hemmed in the zone he is decent and he plays well along the boards.

Yes, IMO he is. He's large, but doesn't use his body. Has a hard shot, but never hits the net. He is a -28, which is unacceptable when you only have 7 points. Perhaps he'd be less exposed as bottom 2 dman, but as of right now he does not look like an NHL dman to me.

The reason why the 4th line was out there is because Jt, PAP and Moulson played 50 mins and were out of gas

Nino is a great prospect stuck in a bad situation which crap coaching and horrific management has done.

If you think what we did to Nino is bad just wait to the criminality that will occur with Ryan Strome.

now, folks:

pick the most EXCEPTIONAL answer.

1. He should be in juniors.
2. He should be with far better linemates.

The hockey fan picks 1. The Islander fan believes this guy will be the exception to the rule given our many, many, many busts who have been handled this way.

What do you pick?

The INKLING of faith I have in Snow has me hopeful that since he hasn't rushed DeHaan (much), he won't rush Strome.

But if he PROMISES Strome anything, the kid's career is ruined.
