Semin would be able to expose his skills with Bostons protection.

Not protection as much as competent center. Semin with Krejci, Bergeron or Seguin would be a huge step up over what he's been putting up a PPG while playing a solid defensive game with. Protection is nice but while he isn't gonna outmuscle people near the boards or in front of the net he doesn't exactly get pushed around that much and wins more battles than he loses on stickwork alone.

he was never intended on being any teams grinder, he is capable of playing defence, it would be a nice change to witness him on a more defensive team that also posseses talent, would be crazy to witness him on Bergeron on Krejci's wing.

A little off topic but what was wrong with that hit?? A dirty, nasty hit? What was the penalty for? That was a solid check.

It was on a Canadian player in the Vancouver Olympics.

That alone is enough of a reason to get Bertuzzi'd.

This. And the TV guys heaped praise on Boyle for the shameless slew foot after Semin's "dangerous" play. Disgraceful.

And FWIW, I do not believe Semin will be traded.

Also lets talk about the hardworking Bruins line up.

Krejci has same points one less game, but is a -7 on the highest goal differential team in the NHL, Semin is a +8.
-7 on a +61 team is just brutal.
That would be equivalent to being around -70 playing on the Caps.

Olczyk was annoying the entire Olympics, but that game was ridiculous.

Love it when hf posters that cant even skate come to criticize a player with nothing but stereotypes. I thought most Boston fans had a grasp of hockey...guess you win a cup and suddenly a player who is very talented and a fine defender becomes worthless.

He isn't worthless. He's worthless to the Bruins. We got rid of kessel because he played a similiar game. Why would we trade to get one back?

I just wasnt aware that the Boston Bruins are made up of a bunch of t-1000's. The way some of you speak its as if your gm is Hitler creating his perfect army on the ice. That would explain Pouliot (sp?) Since he was never labeled as a player taking shifts off and cast away from is it two teams now?

I think Kessel got traded because he wanted big dollars for doing less...and then Burke came along with an insane offer.

Boston is made up of gritty players that can play 2 way hockey. Semin doesn't fit in with Boston.

I'll ignore the "No toughness" part.

Semin would fit on the Wings because they're a veteran team that can handle him. Datsyuk especially could make something impressive out of him.

Semin responds "Boston is too soft of a team for me to play for."

Ask around and you should be told that is the type of player missing on the team.

We were fortunate last season to win like we did. Won't happen again.

Still I don't think PC would get Semin, he still is someone we need.

I don't know where people get this 'no defense' crap from. He backchecks hard every shift.

A Russian on the Bruins?

LOLZ

Every Bruins forward played in the CHL (Krejci Included), they like that kind of development, I don't see that philosophy changing.

What the hell does my skating ability have to do with the observation that Alexander Semin would be a bad fit in Boston?

No they don't.

Semin is a great forechecker, and plays defense unlike most of the people here seem to think. He is usually first or second on the Caps in takeaways.

I think he means a smaller build. Or weak.

It's true, a passive, one way forward would go nowhere in Boston's physical defensive system.

except that anyone actually watching semin would tell you that he is not weak. thats the entertainment of any semin thread.

there's repetition of the old and tired sexual jokes.
then that he can't play defense.
then that he is small or weak or some such.

semin is so all those things that when he totally rocked dan boyle with the puck still on his stick, that it was judged a late hit. by the way. that slewfoot was brutal. he wasnt even phased by it.

Doesn't bother me really, underrate Semin all you want, Ovechkin him on the first line against Bruins in the playoffs will be fun, Ovechkin laying some sick backhand saucer passes for a Semin one timer.

Or you gonna say Ovechkin doesn't know how to pass cause hes a puck hog?

The fact that Caps fans think that Semin plays great defense exposes one of the many flaws with that franchise.
