Ottawa - Carolina Proposal

To Carolina
- Hossa - premier RW, 82 point season.
- White - former 50 and 60 point scorer, very good defensive player.
- Pothier - AHL 2 time all-star, captain Bingo, powerpoint quarterback, offensive upside.

Ottawa
- Cole - powerforward LW, 42 points.
- Brind'Amour - veteran centre who wins faceoffs, 38 points.
- Hill - veteran right shooting defencemen to play with Redden, 39 points.
- Brendl - some youth to sweeten the deal.

That package wouldnt even land Hossa alone. Hill isn't even on Carolina, either.

This is more reasonable
Havlat is the best scorer but Cole gives you a nice package of playoff grit plus some scoring
Brindamour can be short term scoring while Williams has a nice upside.
Brindamour > Smolinski
Havlat > Cole
Williams > White
Is what Ott gives up in the Havlat-Cole exchange compensated by the smaller gains
they get in the rest of the deal?
From a playoff point of view i think Ott could benefit from this exchange
On the other hand a pure goal scorer and a decent 2 way center is not a bad return for carolina

Unless Ottawa was deliberately trying to dump Hossa, I'd have to imagine that he would be one of the hardest players in the league to trade for.

Heh if Carolina wanted Marian Hossa,it would start with Eric Staal and Jeff O'Neill and probably then some.

I'd do it for Cole, Staal, and O'Neill, though I doubt Carolina would

Hossa isn't going to get traded...ever. The organization likes him far too much.

Brind'amour would be a god-send to Ottawa. He is precisely what they should be looking for I'd say. The only issue here is that Brindy might not be far from retirement. Also, I'm not sure, but might he be a UFA if the season is wiped out?

If he still wants to play:

To Ottawa: Rod Brind'amour
To Carolina: Antoine Vermette & Sens 2nd round pick in 2005

Sound good, Canes/Sens fans?

considering how much money Rod makes and how little he plays, I wouldnt give up more than a 5th rounder for him.

I wouldn't give up Vermette for him, but I'd definately give up a 2nd rounder and maybe a prospect. He would be amazing in Ottawa.

That would be a deadline deal. I would guess a 3rd & a late round prospect would land him...or simply a second. Vermette is overpayment considering how young he is.

Remember, it's a new CBA. He only makes that money for one more year, and he is the kind of player that can add a ton of everything you need to win a championship.

I know he's not the most glamourous player in Hockey's Future fan's land of the prospects, but he gets it done that's for darn sure.

And a 5th round pick is not going to land the Canes best player. You've got to give to get, as they say. This isn't a Ron Francis approaching UFA-ness, this is a much better player who can add a ton both on and off the ice to a team like the Senators.

Sure they would. It would take the right package but it could get done. After all, if Gretzky can be traded anyone can be traded.

If you were sure that Hasek would be the uninjured great goalie that he is still perhaps? capable of, and thought Brindamour would be the player that would put you over the edge you would maybe trade a Vermette for him. I really liked what I seen in Vermette last year. He has scored regularly in all levels but has not been used on such a talent laden team like the Sens in a scoring role. I would have trouble trading him alone for an old player like Brindamour. If it won Ott a cup then fine but I think that depends more on Hasek than anything else. Ott is capable of winning the cup with the right goalie. One day they will climb Mt Mapleleaf. The longer this lockout goes on The older the Leafs are getting. Im an Oiler fan but would love for the cup to come back to Canada. Anywhere but TO, sorry leaf fans but i grew up a habs fan old habits are hard to break. Besides the leafs are Canadas version of the rangers they can buy every old dinosaur that comes on the market. Ottawa has done a nice job of building their team. Muckler was a very important cog in the Oilers Staney Cups. He will get the job done there. Ott is capable of some good old oiler style hockey an Muckler will bring in players that will acomadate that run and gun style.

Huge overpayment. A 2nd rounder alone is probably fair market value.

I miss having Rod Brind'Amour in Philly, although trading him has helped us in the long run. Primeau has turned into an incredible all-around guy. I think Brindy would be a tremendous addition to the Sens. Most trade proposals for them call for a gritty winger that can score (Morrow, usually), but a gritty center who wins faceoffs and does everything right would help, too. He is also a great locker room presence. I think a 2nd or a 3rd in mid-season would get him if he is playing, and I'd definitely consider it, if I were the Sens' management.

Carolina would have to sweeten the deal in order to get Hossa alone as far as I'm concerned, let alone Pothier and White. Cole, Brind'Amour and Brendl just doesn't cut it for a player who is among the league's best in his respective position. Hill is now a Panther........
