*Long Shot* PHI-WAS Proposal

To PHI: Alexander Ovechkin + one of Morissonn or Eminger

To WAS: Simon Gagne + Joni Pitkanen

Flyers get a solid long term replacement for Leclair and a lesser replacement for trading Pitkanen.

Capitals get a Great young defender and a good young left wing with a strong defensive game.

Flame away.

Philadephia should include a 1st and 2nd rounder and we may start talking.

It may be even, or not. But I'm not sure why either team would consider it. You don't make trades for the sense of trading.

Agree. There's no reason for either team to even enter into negotiations. The only Cap I'd want on the Flyers is Witt and I don't think he's going anywhere since Washington wants to build their blueline corps around him and Eminger.

Gagne and Pitkanen aren't enough to get Ovechkin alone IMO. Add Eminger or Morrisonn(who are good young d-man) and its major overkill.

Id do it, Gagne has never lived up to expectations and Pitkanen seems to have the cranial protection of a Lindros.

the problems with this trade starts with how you describe the players. "A solid and a lesser..." and "a great ...and a strong..."

your words give you away. Ovechkin is considered a potential best player in the league. The Caps wouldn't trade Eminger or Morrisonn straight up for Gagne and there is just no chance that they would trade Ovechkin for Pitkanen.

Man Ovechkin would look good in Philly colours but Washington would want the farm and the bank for him.

Why wouldnt the Caps trade Eminger or Morrisonn for Gagne?

I'm sure they would consider giving up one of the 2 yound defenceman in order to get a guy like Gagne who could soon be a first line C/LW in the NHL. Washington is very thin on forwards and Gagne is already close to being fully developed and still young so it would make sense to me if I was washington.

Would it not be crazy if Philly did a similar deal for AO like they did for Lindros. They did it once before, what's stopping them now?

Ovechkin would not fit into Philly's style of play, and at this point i'd rather have Gags and Pits..

Isn't Joni injured now (though no trades can be made during the lockout) and no where near playing to his capabilities in the AHL. From what I've read really underachieveing right now and you want Caps to throw in OVechkin/Eminger or Morrisson for him and Gagne. Not a chance.

Pitkanen fractured his hand and was scheduled to be out 3 weeks. He returned last night after missing just one game.

Pitkanen played 4 games and a part of another. He has 3 assists and was a +2.

Ovechkin doesn't what??? Please explain that. I've seen a lot of Flyer hockey under Hitchcock and from ive seen of Ovechkin, OA would be more likely to be PERFECT rather than WOULD NOT FIT for the Flyers style.

Caps have a number of first-line forward prospects (Ovechkin, Semin, Fehr), and many second-line prospects (e.g., Aulin, Klepis, Fleischman, Sykora, to name a few). In contrast, what they don't have is a lot of top-2 defensemen prospects. At the age of 20 or older they have only 2 - Morrisson and Eminger - and neither are sure-fire to be 1st or 2nd defenseman. So it would not make sense for the Caps to give up either to get a forward, even a high-quality one like Gagne, when they should be fine in that area with their own prospects in two years (although I realize that the original trade proposal involved a defenseman - Pitkanen - coming to the Caps).

With what Ovy has been doing over in russia, it would take no less than Gagne, Pitkanen and Phillys 1st for me to give him up. Thats an overpayment for him, but hes proving that the hype he got before the draft is real.

how could u say gagne is over rated? he played on the checking line all last year (or most of it) if he would play on a scoring line he'll rack up 60+ points and ur saying pitkanen is just a young dman? last i heard he's a future norris candidate

I don't think the proposal is ludicrous, though I don't like it too much from the Caps' perspective. I hold Pitkanen in high regard, however. I think he's going to be a player.

Because in the end, they got hosed on that deal!

Not only did they give up a big package to get him, they gave up the better player in the deal too.

I'd never do it. Neither would McPhee.

It's almost canon that the team that loses the best player loses the trade.

There's no way in h*ll Washington will trade Ovechkin.

meh, they didnt really get hosed, when lindros played for the Flyers he was one of the, if not, best player in the NHL, and trading him did lead to Johnsson who is one of the best offensive D in the league, Brendl, who they traded for kapanen, who is an unsung hero, and Hlavac, who got them Breshear, well, umm, i gont nothign to say about him, anyways, when you look at it, the trade didnt hose them, considering forsberg is always injured lately and we dont even know if he's even going to come back to the NHL when the lockout is over

as much as i would want OA in Philly, i think giving up Gagne and Pitknanen would upset team chemistry

Joni is back. He missed 2 games, and he is playing great. So you are misinformed.
