Wait, the Red Wings are only 2 behind the Canucks with the same amount of games played and the Bruins are 7 behind the Rangers with the same amount of games player yet the Canucks need fewer points to clinch the west, than the Rangers the east? Does it have something to do with the western pair playing 3 more games and thus leaving less time for Detroit to catch up?

Yes that's exactly it.
Detroit/St. Louis peak out at 123 points meaning the Nucks need 37 to eclipse that. They have 19 games to accomplish it
Boston peaks out at 121 points. The Rags need 38 to get above that. They have 22 games to accomplish that.
Damn I hoped you forgot to do it this year. I wanted to take over.

Sorry the Canucks points to clinch a playoff spot should be equal to the amount needed to clinch the division as thats the lower number.
