A new band aid to replace the old one.

Similar to Edmonton I guess when they let Renney go.

5.5 x 5. For Grabovski? JFC. Awful contract for the Leafs, what in the world is Burke thinking.

LOL. Going through the leafs thread.

First 4 pages is about how it's 4-5mil anything more is a joke. Talk was about why would Burke sign him for anymore so soon and that it would be a hometown discount.

Then 5.5mil comes out while some admit it's too much, now the majority start with the comparisons to Ruutu and Statsny to justify contract.

Actually on that list from Cap Geek, Horcoff is a damn good comparable. They both now have atrocious contracts.

Horcoff doesn't count because it was signed years ago. That's what Leaf fans will tell you.

We've seen this before Joe and we know it's a viscous cycle. Like us Oiler fans many of us justified that Horc contract for many years. Give them until end of year two maybe year three until the majority of the fan base wants Burkes head because of the signing.

Then Burke gets moved up to President and Nonis takes of as GM.

They could hat the signing before it kicks in.

"I wish you'd told me before you asked me to do this interview that that was going to be your last question," Burke said. "A nice little cheap shot before you get off the air."

When Moore persisted and re-asked his question, Burke was short with his response. "No, I don't [worry about getting dismissed]," Burke said just moments before hanging up. "I think it's an ignorant question, and a gutless one, too."

Burke is such a blowhard.

But his team is failing yet again and I doubt a coaching change is going to get them into the playoffs this late into the year. They're 5 points back, but more importantly, they have to leapfrog at least 4 teams.

Honestly they might have been better off just riding the year out with Wilson, unless Carlyle was a hot commodity.

Carlyle probably will be a hot commodity. Lot of teams could make changes this year and Burke locked up a guy that would've been at the top of a lot of lists.

Kronwall on Voracek was enormous. Absolutely destroyed.

But honestly, everyone around the league knows he wont drop the gloves. Schenn should have just let loose.

Honestly a completely mindless play by Voracek. How can he not see the play develop as he skates up towards the boards/blueline, then proceeds to stare down at his feet for 3 strides, somehow not expect a Dman to contest the puck at the blueline, especially when that dman is none other than Kronwall. Absolutely zero ice awareness and/or hockey sense. Stupid stupid way to play the puck there. Can't blame Kronwall, even he is likely surprised Voracek couldn't get his head up by the time they collide. This is a type of move you could even regret in a non-contact beer league, you could easily skate right into someone just trying to play the puck and get hurt. Stupid play.

Minnesota loses 7-1 to Colorado tonight. Gilbert plays close to 28mins, and is only -1 in the game.
BAsically Minny was in the half a game Gilbert played. They got annihilated when he wasn't on the ice.

Oh, and Minnesota scored their one goal on a penalty shot.

Wheels have entirely fallen off. What looked like an early coaching success story has turned into a fullscale disaster in Minny.

Time to reevaluate everything down there.

That's one fan base I just feel bad for. When I think of Minny there is just nothing to get excited about, now or in the future. I guess Granlund?

Also the Kronwall hit was an awesome hockey hit and it was 100% clean I'd say. Still always feel bad for a guy when he gets popped so hard he does that laying on your back and grabbing up, turtle on it's back type of thing.

Yeah like trading away 4 veteran defenders for 1.

Also love how a success story for Gilbert is only being a -1 in a 7-1 loss.

Weren't you on Minny's bandwagon earlier this year? Watching them play, I knew it was a mirage. They depended on timely goal scoring along with great goaltending and a lot of luck going their way. The system they were playing required 110% effort, and as soon as that team went into a 4 game losing streak the players stopped working as hard and their system collapsed before them.

Biggest mirage of a team ever. Just glad I won't have to watch their team in the playoffs. BTW, seems a lot of Minny fans think they have a legit shot at Parise and Suter in the offseason. Haha, maybe a tiny chance at Parise because he's from there (but I don't think he's going there), but why would Suter go there?

People assume that if players are friends that they will do anything to play on the same team. I'm guessing that is only one of MANY things on a player's list when deciding his future.

I think he meant Suter and Parise. They've been noted as being close friends from their time on Team USA. (IIRC)

I don't know if theyll be able to attract both, but hey money talks. If they throw enough at both of those guys, im sure they'll overlook a lot of things.

Fair comment. They had a real hot start, were playing for each other, had a real team concept and team play going on then something happened. Like a snap of the finger.

Actually the club reminded me a whole lot of the 2004 Calgary Flames. Except the wheels didn't fall off on that wagon. At some point the players in Minny just said "screw this, I'm tired of trying to do it all on overachieving.

They had a huge headstart, figured they would pace the rest of the way in. They fell right off a cliff.

Some major tune out happened on this club. If ever there was an example of a coach having and losing a room. Not sure what happened. It happened around Xmas.
