Because either way at the end of the year he'll be a free agent. If the guy hits the 70pt plateau, he probably wants to maximize that leverage to get years and money after toiling in the minors so long. It's what he's waited for. It's clear Garth will want some type of discount or back-loaded deal and he's no Tavares. Hell, I wouldn't sign until July 1 either.

^ This. An NMC is different than a NTC.

A no-trade clause requires a player's consent before a trade involving that player is made. If a player has a no-movement clause, the player cannot be traded, waived, or sent down to the minors without that player's approval. In both cases, however, a player is not protected from being bought out by the player's current team.

I agree. So why not make that clear and get to go to the playoffs, while helping out the team that gave you a chance?

Whoever said anything about Perry??
Carter was just traded for JJ and a 1st. I think we can get Ryan for KO, Bailey and a 1st. Maybe add a 2nd as well?

Nash is looking for a goal scorer to take them to the next level. Their going to have to give up something of value to obtain that. Would you prefer they gave up a 1st instead of Ellis??

Do you think anyone would begrudge a pending UFA the chance at the playoffs?

My prediction: Crickets

If anything, maybe Pandawful and NoReasoner waived and some youngsters brought up.

Good point. Would make things pretty darn awkward in the room if he came out and said "I want out" and then Garth couldn't get a deal together.

I do think that given the situation, that Garth should trade PAP. As much as I like the guy and want him as an Islander, if he hits 70 or 75 or 80 points, he's going to be looking for Ville Leino+ money. I think he's a great offensive guy and he could do so much to help the scoring but I also don't think that PA should be the highest paid player on the Islanders.

I really don't know what to expect from Snow/Wang today.

And call me crazy, but I am still hoping that in the future the Isles will have an owner who will employ a GM who will take care of putting an NHL team together with a coach behind the bench and the games will take place in a modern arena.

Well, that's one option he has to make, and that's what every other guy has done that wants to be there. I can see why he would want to get more money and length of contract and I can see your point and be a team player. I hope he does the latter like Moulson, Grabner, et al., because they need him.

Was just browsing, and on Ryan, GMBM set the asking price from Toronto as Kessel+Grabovski. So it's going to take a pretty big overpayment to get Ryan.

Overall I feel it's gonna be a real quite day, not much movement because of all the crazy movement and resigning before deadline this year.

Dreger says PA "would prefer to stay with the Islanders". In my opinion, if Garth has players that are 1st line caliber that want to be here, you get Frugal Chuck to ante-up and keep them here unless it's completely unreasonably terms.

Garth Snow tried leaning on P.A. Parenteau's sense of loyalty to get a discounted contract done & that didn't work. He'll likely be moved.

If he really wanted to stay with the Isles, he would be talking contract. You can't put the team on the spot if you really want to stay.

#Isles trying to scare PAP into signing on their terms. Doubtful that strategy works. In trade, Snow wants No. 1 pick and player.

Ha! Exactly what I thought. It's nice and all that the other guys gave into the discount, but there is fair market value for players and there is still time to negotiate. It's a shame that Garth apparently won't budge and that it appears that the discount is the Islanders market rate, because we know that we have no chance of getting top end talent if we can't retain our own 2nd line or marginal top line talent without squeezing them like this.

Yeah you can -- if you want to be paid as well. PA's last real chance at a payday, can't fault him in that regard.

THe discount route wasn't working with a 27 year-old. This is his big payday.

I take Botta with a grain of salt these days, but if this is true, count me in for the "Snow Must Go" bandwagon This team isn't really in a position to be using scare tactics against its players, and while PAP has been much better than expected, I doubt anyone is gonna bite if Snow's demanding a 1st rounder AND player.
