I would be too, but that is most likely too much.

I think we would have to take a lesser prospect. Chevy should have a good idea of what's there in Chicago. I like the idea of a guy like Jimmy Hayes or Brandon Pirri though. Would most likely have to add to get Pirri though as well.

It'll pick up around 1:45. Eastern.

Oduya's value could rise as the afternoon goes on. I don't expect a lot to happen on the trade front today, let alone the Jets. But we'll see. Can't wait to see what happened when I get home this evening.

The Wings want Mason? Howard and MacDonald have played lights out this year. That's a bit puzzling

Interesting day for sure.

we are in the middle of a playoff run right now and do we really want to be a seller? This position is tough for a GM because getting something for Johnny O could ultimately cost us a playoff spot if we run into injury issues on the blue line during the stretch drive? Not saying it will happen but I also don't like the message it sends to the room when you are sellers at the deadline while in the middle of a race. I get it and its business but given that it’s our first year back and the team is in a legitimate playoff race right now for the first time in a while I would be willing to burn Johnny's value to keep the team intact. If we were to make the playoffs this year I believe it would provide more development value that a theoretical 2nd round pick and even if we don’t make the playoffs the run alone could do more for our young players than a 2nd. We are in the dreaded tweener zone.

When they were interviewing Chevy on CBC on Saturday he mentioned something to the degree of “although the trade deadline provides opportunity that it is just one day and they are looking at making their entire organization better 365 days a year”.

Either way I get it but I wouldn’t underestimate the impact a move has on team chemistry.

I'm gonna be disappointed if Oduya is still on this team by the end of the day.

Couple interesting tweets to think about,

Quote:
gary lawless ‏ @garylawless
- can the jets get a second round pick for oduya and then flip the pick to a seller for a player like steve ott or paul gaustad #nhltrade
I would do this, flip the pick for an asset we could have for today and the future. Wouldn't work for Gaustad though as he is UFA at seasons end, unless he would re-sign with us like Bishop did with Ottawa yesterday.

Quote:
Ken Wiebe ‏ @WiebeSunSports
Bruins had Assistant GM Don Sweeney here for a few #NHLJets games last week, so their interest in Oduya and maybe Randy Jones makes sense
Interesting.

Interesting.
Jones is wishful thinking. There's still animosity after that Bergeron hit. He's not well liked by their fan base.

I agree. If the team moved all the UFAs for picks it would be a bad message. If they moved one though, particularly if they get a player back, I don't think it would be a problem.

To put the day and activity, or lack there of, into perspective,

Quote:
Rick Ralph ‏ @RickRalphTSN
There were 24 trades last year. 2 of those were before 11am CT.

early word is that boston offer for oduya is not strong enough at this point, could get juicier as deadline approaches #nhltrade

Sense out of one NHL war room is the Nash situation is causing a massive holdup in other deals. If that drops, dam breaks?

Player back and I am fine actually either way I'm fine as long as we don't lose focus on this year
