Keeping them in the game

He currently has 10 saves on 11 shots, I would not really consider that "keeping them in the game."
So you're saying if a goalie can see the puck when the skater has it in the circle, he should save it every time?

I don't disagree. It's not the most accurate method in which to judge, but until something better suited is posted, that is a starting point for discussion.

I'll gladly agree that the defense shares some of the blame, but what exactly do you want the defense to do? The defense is playing exactly like they always have.

Timonen is actually having a career year, Carle and Coburn are the same old players they have always been, Grossman and Kubina are exactly what we thought they were, and Meszaros is struggling but has improved recently.

The reason I don't blame the defense is because this isn't their fault. Our defensive shortcomings are a product of Pronger's injury, Laviolette's overly aggressive scheme, and our lack of good defensive forwards.

But nobody on this defense is really underperforming what we expected of them the way that Bryzgalov is. I am still angry every time Carle makes a mindnumbingly stupid turnover, but it's expected. You knew what you were getting with Carle before the season started. Same can be said for every other defender on this team.

The biggest under performer on this team is Bryzgalov. He is nowhere close to what was expected of him and therefore he should shoulder most of the blame. Either that or Laviolette needs to lose his job for not adjusting the scheme. Or maybe even both.

But I do not see how you can just sit there and blame the defense / the defenders for doing what they have always done.

1st PP = fail.

Flyers are back to a weak perimeter game for all the time they were in the Sharks' zone.

Last win for Phil here was in 1999, according to Sharks announcers. Sorry if MSE has already noted this.

To be fair, bryzgalov does give a quality start (defined as 2 GA or less, or a sv% > .913) about half the times.

Not that that's anywhere close to what he should be doing.

Not so much, when he's the reason they're down...because any shot at all from the circles is a free goal at this point.
