A little overpayment but not giving up any prospects and getting a 4th back takes away the sting. He definitely makes us a better team.

Huge price to pay for a 4th line center. His intangibles make this deal intriguing though. If we can make it to the conference finals, I could care less what pick was given up.

I think he could be a fine 3rd liner for us to.

Most def makes the team better. We got depth (and death star against columbus).

Rick Nash must be PISSED.

When it comes to icetime, Spaling should have the edge. Gaustad is a physical presence, key faceoff winner, and great on the pk. Not much offense to squeeze out of him though. That's why I have him pegged as the 4th line center. That said, depending on the opponent, some players could get more icetime than others as usual.

Hope he enjoys WATCHING the playoffs....AGAIN. I certainly wish there was at least 1 more game with the straight jackets (for more than 1 reason).

The 1st is a lot, but thats a crucial piece that needed to be filled.

Better version of Smithson.

too steep .. but good job poile.. my only complaint is after all the "hype" by trotz and poile.. we wind up with at best a 2nd line winger, 4th line center, and 3rd pairing defenseman.. he can just never land and catch the big fish. he still gets an A from me

We're basically paying $100 for a jar of peanut butter... this had better be some mighty good peanut butter.

Peter Forsberg and Mike Fisher... both were the "Big Fish" best pickups in the season they were acquired.

Hodgson and AK were the big fish of the day, Carter was the big fish of the deadline. We got the best PK forward, the 2nd best D man, and the 2nd best forward.

Works for me.

A+ in my book.

Early speculation, but this adds to the theory of Lindback gone before the draft for a pick.

notice the land and catch part . he traded for forsberg and then he was gone. fisher is the only big fish he has traded and had under contract more than a year.. and he isn't even a big fish. nash is a big fish.. but he didn't want to come here.. like I said poile gets an A from me

Nash didn't get traded. Poile reportedly had the best offer, but Nash didn't have us on his list. If the Preds were in the running and Nash was traded to another team, then yes Poile was unable to land him. But as it is, he just wasn't available to us, even at a huge price.

Fisher isn't a big fish, but he was the biggest fish on last years deadline.

I agree with you.. but like I said poile hasn't landed and caught the big fish... yet. not for lack of trying.. all in all, a good day to be a preds fan... we could always be sellers instead of buyers ...

His time was up in Buffalo and a 1st is overpayment, but the quote that sums him up is, "He's everything you could ever want in a forward that doesn't score".

He's great at faceoffs and strong defensively. He's worth the price to have a guy that will consistently win big draws and can handle defensive responsibilities. He may be on the 4th line, but his situational value is is extremely high.

I like the moves made. Our offense is #10. Our PP is #1. Our overall defense is #9. Our PK is #13. Between Gaustad and Gill our PK should continue to improve.

We may not have that dynamic scoring forward, but our depth is insane. Our special teams should make the difference in close games, and with the PK getting a strong shot in the arm our chances of making a lot of noise went up.
