Edmonton fans, just promise you'll play this song when Schultz gets introduced at his first Oiler game. It's Nick's favorite song.

Sadly, there have been many games this year where that nickname applied to the entire team.

I seem to remember a point in the season where I was using our blueliners names as curse words for a few days. Thats how bad they were at one point.

To be fair, Justin Falk makes it pretty easy on you.

Anyone give me any insight as to whether Schultz can play the right side?

Good luck in Minnesota Tom Gilbert. Steve Tambellini has a soft spot for his players and often finds deals where they can go home when their time is done in Edmonton. Schultz is coming to a team he was a fan of when he was growing up and will be closer to his roots. I think this is a good hockey deal, both teams got something they wanted without anyone getting bent over. By the way its the Broadcasters who call you guys Minny not Oiler fans, we know your team is in St. Paul. Hope Tom plays great for you guys and makes your team better.

So, who was it a while back that said their dad ran into Russo in the airport and Russo told him that the Wild were trying to move Schultz?

That turned out to be right on the money. Interesting that Russo never really went public with that sort of information until the day before the deadline...

Russo probably never believed it was all that serious. I think it should have been obvious myself though that he needed to be moved...

My old man ran into Burns at the gun range the day after he got traded to the Sharks. He was real nice but he was trying to blow off steam.

He's a quote machine. The extra money he's getting paid vs what havlat was getting paid is worth it just because he's so good with the press.

Gilbert for Schultz is a horizontal trade with the possibility of each player finding a better niche with their new team.

Wild are in need of a more offensive minded defenseman, a puck mover, that is willing to take more shots from the point. Tom has been known to do those things in the past, plus he's not terrible at defense either.

Schultz's attitude, work ethic, and classiness will be missed here but hopefully Gilbert can start out on the right foot and get going with the Wild. Would be fun to watch another Lats for Beniot trade happen where both players ignite a bit.

you know they're all big boys and trades happen and everything. i know some people like to interpret or brush off Clutterbucks initial reaction comments to suit their own opinions of the deal but if there were some fragility character/leadership wise in the locker room might this not just exacerbate the situation? At least this is a GM decision and not the coach, so there shouldn't be any backlash at all there and I wouldn't even mention it but for the speculation already going on that the locker room was in disarray.

I will defend Schultz up and down, but he did make one comment that never sat well with me. To paraphrase (around when Koivu and Butch went out):

"We're just trying to hold out until Koivu can get back."

It really bothered me when he said it. It just seemed that he (as a leader) was just trying to survive until the Kaptain could swoop in and save everyone.
