Tom Gilbert appreciation thread

Disappointing to see him go. He's been a great soldier for a lot of years. At times, he was played over his head, but he always managed to put his best foot forward. Sad to see him go after he seemed to finally turn a corner.

He'll be missed.

Developed into a solid top 4, very glad to see him go home if he was to be traded.

Cheers, Tommy!!

Class act. I'll always be a Gilbert fan. One of the few bright spots on this club over the past few seasons. Loved his work ethic and seeing him progress from an offense-first, mediocre defensive player into a warrior of a d-man defensively, willing to step in the way of shots, mix it up offensively (this year, anyway), and mentor the younger d-men. Helluva player.

Honestly always like Gilbert, and I hope he finds success back home in Minny.

One of my favourite memories is the Oilers' Halloween party where he broke POS, lol.

Really consistently enjoyed his play, hard role playing D through years of a very bad team, never complained, and a consummate pro on and off the ice.

One of the few vet leaders we had on this club. One of only 4 that had been retained and survived here the last number of years.

Anyway thanks for making Oilers hockey that much easier to watch the last number of years Tom.

You'll be a credit to any org you play for. But I wish it continued here.

Sad to see him go. Try and resign him in 2 years when his deal runs out?

Liked Gilbert. Too bad he was underappreciated by many Oiler fans since he wasn't blue collar enough for many of his seasons here. Thanks Tom for the years of service!

Best of luck Tom! I admire the way you adjusted you game this season and become more assertive. Some people just arent naturally mean...you really had to dig deep to overcome that! Kudos!

I'm sorry to say you are now the enemy!

Ty Tommy Salo for Shultz!

Also; ty Gilbert for solidifying your game this season. He became more physical, improved his slap shot, and I thought defensively.. he improved as well.

Welcome Shultz now.

I like that he was traded for Tommy Salo.

^_^

Loved the person, hated the hockey player. Thanks for the time you put in to the team and the community but I would be lying if I said I wasn't jumping when I saw his name on the TV.

He worked hard, was a good Oiler and tried desperately to hone and improve his game over his time here but to me, he symbolized the personnel on these lousy post-2006 teams and our fan base's habit of overvaluing talent. It was time to move on.

Good luck back at home in Minny, Tom.

Best of luck Tommy!

His offensive game regressed over the years and he seemed slower too (still think his back is ****ed). Still, a bonafide top-4 D-man.

Good luck Tom nice to see Tambo make a deal that sends a player to his old stomping grounds, enjoyed your play this year quality guy Oil fans will miss the Gibby/Smid pair. Very excited about Schultz this guy brings a calm steady hand to the back end, and hes from western Canada. Win Win for both teams.
