The reaction to the Visnovsky trade ended up being correct.

Relax, the only reason Gilbert got all those extra minutes this year was because of Whitney's health issues, nothing more. I've watched Schultz play everytime we play the wild, and he always struck me as a calm, cool customer, that invariably makes the right play under pressure. Listen to his team-mates whining and complaining about his absence and that should tell you a lot. Sounds like a great character guy and leader. We'll be fine.

Not sure why this trade was made. Must be for making room for other trades. Otherwise.. I'm not a fan of this trade one bit.

Huh?

Look at GP and EV TOI.

Schultz is not in Minny's bottom pairing.

I am very pleased with this deal.
This is shuffling pieces at best.

They gave up something they need to get something they need.

Not seeing where the improvement lies.

This is something that had to factor into the decision making to do this deal.

Durability is very important for this team and Schultz brings durability in a top 4 role.

First thought was, "Ok, who is Nick Schultz and how does he play?" after hearing he is an elite defensive dman and he will be able to help with the defensive side of things, I am very happy with this. Gilbert was fine, but realistically we don't need more PMD as we got Whitney, Petry and to some aspects, Potter. We'll be ok.

I don't think it's a bad trade, really, but what does it add? I guess all this does is tip our hand that we're on the hunt for an elite puck-mover at the draft?

The improvement is that petry is developing to be better than Gilbert.

Even though I am not a fan of the trade, I do think Schultz will be a useful player for us.

Usually when you are talking about shut-down dmen, they are poor skaters. Smid and Schultz can at least move which is nice.

It also shows the org is high on Petry which makes me happy. He is a stud.

If you believe Whitney is past his foot problems (and he says he's without pain for the first time in a long time), then they probably made the right choice.
Whitneys been horrible lately and looks like he has concrete skates. Can't keep the puck in, slow to react, and taking too long to move the puck.

I agree that right now Gilbert's playing better than Whitney.

Most ES TOI and SH TOI minutes this year among Wild dmen.

That stat's misleading, as it doesn't take into account that 2 of the guys ahead of him in TOI/game haven't been regulars, nor does it account for the fact that Schultz gets less than 30 seconds/night on the PP.

In terms how we'll use him (ES and SH), his ice time is right up there.

I dont totally mind this. I liked Gilbert, but its not like he was a key to our future or anything. Would have liked a pick included too though.

@copperandblue (sorry...the quote button isn't working properly)

There are intangibles that are covered with this deal. Leadership and durability are necessary ingredients moving forward.

The team gets better with this deal.

Shultz is a very good defensive d'man tho. We'll see how it works out in the future.

Are you kidding me? What on earth can you be basing this opinion?!

Shultz is a top-end shutdown guy, among the top 20 in the league easily. The only difference between he and Smid is that he's been doing it for over half a decade.

Sutton and Peckham can't hold his jockstrap. No disrespect to those guys intended, but they are not in the same class as Dmen. There is a difference between a "physical dman" and a "physical shutdown dman" and Pecks and Sutton are the former.

Neither is Gilbert so it's probably a wash in that regard.

Is it worth noting that the most recent time Schultz missed was due to a concussion? Alot less predictable than a a knee injury in terms of recovery...

Must be hard for him, IIRC Schultz is the last of the origanal expansion Wild players left in Minnesota.

I've always been a big fan of Schultz, and have brought up the idea of aquiring him many times, but Gilbert is a far more complete player IMO, and a RD where we aren't as deep. Right now, the right side of our defense is Petry, Potter, and Teubert...that's aweful.

I'm disapointed in this trade because of what we gave up, not because of what we got back.
