Oh really? Could you elaborate on that? how do you know? How much of Schultz have you actually seen?

Seems like a random opinion stated as fact.

Just a thought. Is this maybe just solidifying our 2nd pairing long term so we have a legit shutdown pairing?

#1 dman - Petry
Smid - Schultz

Wow. Still not really sure wtf happened here.

I really liked Gilbert the year before his contract. He looked like he had a ton of potential offensivly and seemed defensivley decent as well.

Post contract year Gilbert was an absolute bust. Mind numbingly bad defensively and his offense disappeared. He was horrid right up until this year.

But this year... His offense seemed to be getting better. His defense seemed to be better. He was looking really good again right up untill he got injured. Post injury he was back to suck again but you got to give people some time to get 100% after a ugly injury/hit like that.

Nick Shultz... Dont know this guy from a hole in the ground. Gilbert I would say still has waaaaay more upside than Shultz. Way. Nice to get a defensive defenseman but shouldnt we have gotten a pick as well?

Or is this Shultz guy a true shutdown guy?

Maybe this will make the last 45 seconds of games where we are up by 1 a little less stressful.

Just for the record.... this is the first year since his (full) rookie season that I've been able to tolerate Gilbert's play. There is no way in hockeysticks that Gilbert could have netted a solid guy like Shultz any other year than this year...

Sell high!

Longer term I'll be thrilled not to have Gilbert as one of our top PMDs... he has not been able to consistently bring intensity to his game... not a winner on a winning team IMO.

We just got our Chris Phillips/Jason Smith and will be that much more able to bring in talented young PMD's (if we can find any in our stable/draft).

Good trade!

Yes but Gilbert is also very durable up until the Carcillo cheapshot.

I was initially upset because i feel like Gilbert really came into his own this season and now we ship him out but the reaction of the Wild players and the idea of pairing Schultz with Petry to give him a stable partner is making me rethink my stance a bit.

I'm just disappointed because we waited so long for Gilbert to finally break out and he does just that this season just to be traded. I guess time will tell.

I agree with what misfit said although I can't quote for some reason.

Kinda strange trade but I'm not necessarily hating it.

Gilbert was a good all-around defenceman, and he wasn't really getting any power play time.

So the question is, overall, is Schultz a better #3/4 d-man than Gilbert?

Not sure.

When you're always facing off against the other team's top lines, you're going to get some minuses.

I'm disapointed in this trade because of what we gave up, not because of what we got back.
RH defenseman should be more highly valued as there are fewer, but in fairness, our LH side wasn't all that **** hot either. At least on the right we had Petry outplaying everyone on the team, on the left it was Smid and Whitney (who has played on the right side).

I don't see the slam dunk in intangibles that you are seeing.

Minny relies heavily on a defensive system that will make goalies and defensive defencemen look better than they actually may be. They are also a team that hasn't had much in the way of on ice success so a leader coming from Minny probably isn't much different than getting a leader from Edmonton.

At best the team looks different. But the jury is still very much out on if they are better.

Renney said No, because of medical clearance and passports. But he'll be with the team tomorrow.

Total amount of points from the Edmonton's top 6 defenders combined with Schultz is 68 points. Erik Karlsson has 65 by himself. Typical Tambo trade one of your best players for something you don't need. Up next Eberle for Jordan Staal book it.

They loved this guy in Minny.

He's going to be awesome in the locker room. I think a bit like Gator was.

Schultz has one of the best GA/60 on the Wild, which is a good sign, IMO.

It's been three years since this has been true.

They've just been mediocre and boring (excepting a 20 game stretch this year).

We've been saying for the last few years that this team needed to be harder to play against. This accompolishes that, IMO

Huh?

With the exception of getting destroyed by a very dirty play from Carcillo this year, Gilbert has been about as durable a players as the Oilers have had post-lockout.

That makes no sense at all.

Yah I agree with this. I liked Gilbert but I think Schultz will be good here. Hard to say who wins this outright as the players involved are polar opposites but this is definitely something we needed.

Schultz considered "heart and soul" kind of guy, loved by his team mates.

Schultz apparently grew up an Oilers fan.
