If Aulie had stayed here would he have been given the chance to prove he is nhl ready I have my doubts. But if we assume that his value would have been seen as the same as now then yes this hurts.
this is stupid... that trade doesnt look awful with they way phaneuf plays... stajan stil lhas his skill and he gets another shot i believe he'd be a solid 2nd liner on an eastern team... Sutter's not to blame on his contract 57 points does generally earn a 4.5 million dollar contract...
sutter fell apart near the end but started off strong... but to call him the worst gm??? he got us kipper (for a 2nd) and thats pretty ****en awsome!

Honestly, I think that might have been pure dumb luck. He liked to take risks, and that one just happened to pan out.
While I'm not saying he didn't do some good, he hurt the team a whole lot during the end.
This. Lets let that rest in peace. Stop digging it up just to slap it around more. I will say this though, Aulie was nothing before we traded him. He wasnt even in our top 5 prospects. But seriously. It happened, quit crying and get over it.

What the? Of course Sutter's to blame for that - I mean it's not like someone held a gun to head and told him to sign Stajan for 4 years after watching him play ~ten games as a Flame.
As for the 57 points, complete and total misnomer. Stajan point total was reflection of a) his linemates in Toronto (Kessel) and b) ice-time (he was getting sheltered minutes in Toronto and prime powerplay opportunities - neither of which were going to occur in Calgary). Stajan's a third centre who put up second line numbers getting first line ice-time. Classic tweener that anyone with any sort of hockey knowledge knows isn't the type of player you want on a contender.
In any case, Sutter's idiocy in this trade was illustrated by the simple fact he bought high and sold low. Stajan's and Hagman's value were at an all time high after being given plenty of ice time on a terrible team while Phaneuf's was an all time low playing in Brent's hilariously terrible system. A four year old could tell you that's a stupid way to do business, but evidently, a four year old is too smart for Sutter.
And finally, it's amusing how the only defense people can muster for Darryl is one, single trade he made when he was just starting out as the GM. Can they say anything good about his drafting? Nope. His ability to develop prospects into NHLers? Nope. His signings? Nope. Him leaving the on ice product in better shape then the product he inherited? Nope. But one trade apparently makes it all worthwhile.

one trade that defines our roster now, tanguay was another solid addition, and hes had a pretty good record before the trade in the OHL and Ahl and even playing limited minutes, sometimes play that are acquired just dont amount to anything. sutter did what he was told to do and thats make us a playoff team
he didnt exactly have an allstar roster when he got there but he pulled off a stanley cup final performance and a division champ finished. thats not exactly Awful worthy... and i do think hes a better coach than a gm tho

true statement people say everywhere
FLAMES = KIPPER
if iginla' not here kippers thde face of the franchise
No idea why people are even making this connection. If we didn't trade Aulie, well the things is we don't know what could have happened. Silly thing to say really.
