They wanted Couture for JVR? Wow, their GM must be high. But if the Niemi rumor was true, then I guess DW was high as well.

Niemi for JVR was confirmed as false.

Galiardi is actually a natural center. He's said a lot in the past he is most comfortable playing center, it's part of why he is such a good puck hound and PKer.

But I would love to see him on a line with JT and Pavelski, it reminds me of when Staz/Stewie were clicking and Galiardi was the 3rd wheel on that line his rookie year. They all complimented each other perfectly.

Hope you guys don't mind me chiming in and following how Gali is doing occasionally.

That would be not much different from most of the other GM's and other fanbases around the league. Couture is definitely a very underrated player.

Yay you guys like Winnik! I knew you would.

Just wait until Galiardi finds a good line to be on that compliments his style... He won't ever put up more than 40 points but he will make everybody on the team better by his energy.

I highly doubt that Niemi was dangled as part of any deal that did not involve a goalie coming back. If the Sharks do not get it done in the playoffs, I would not be surprised to see DW take a long, hard look at Ryan Miller. He has been quite vocal about his unhappiness with Sabres' management, and I am quite confident that San Jose is one of the few places he would waive his NTC for. But that's all speculation. Everything depends on what happens in April/May/June.

Winnik surpasses McClement on levels of "potential offensive power". Meaning in a given game Winnik's offensive prowess could be on par with a top 6 guy.

Issue is McClement is 10x more consistent. Not saying thats bad on Winnk it's more saying McClement is a more sure bet to show up and play both ends of the ice.

And it's not like Winnik doesn't show up and plays "bad". He more or less just isn't as effective some nights but doesn't make bad moves.

I can tell you right now there will be some nights where if another player had the puck, it would have been a sure-fire goal or more would have happened.

But that isn't Winnik's game so there's no reason to EXPECT that kind of performance out of him.

I don't think you've seen what Mr Thornton can do to players.

He made Cheechoo a 50+ goal scorer.
He made Nils freaking Ekman look like a top line player.
Even Winchester didn't look out of place on the top line with JT.

I can definitely see Galiardi getting 40+ points if he plays with guys who aren't offensively challenged like Mitchell and Handzus.

Me too. I think they should really try him out with JT and JP, to see if they can get him rolling. Galiardi is still a really young players, so there is still a lot of potential I would think.

Holmgren and Wilson were probably getting high together if (and I doubt it) the rumors were true. Both deals for JVR are ridiculous.

DW: Hey Paul, you wanna make a trade dude? I'll give you Niemi if you trade me JVR?

*both giggle uncontrollably*

Homgren: No, no, no, I got it man. I'll give you JVR..... if you give us Couture.

*both giggle even more uncontrollably*

I was at the Philly game and honestly thought Winnik was the best forward on the ice all night for the Sharks. Only made about 1 mistake from what I can recall. Was really impressed with his speed and motor. Seemed to have a lot more offensive skill than advertised and can never complain about shutting down a guy like Giroux.

I really want to see him with JT and Pavs. I think he'd fit awesome there.

Some of my thoughts on this trade. Most of the Sharks posters here on HF had been hoping for a 2nd-3rd line tweener, with speed & could also PK. I think that with T.J. & Winnik DW scored two. As a bonus Winnik is a very good defensive forward as well, & Galiardi has some untapped potential. It was a blow to lose Ginner but ya gotta give to get. Do I think there could have been better fits for the Sharks? Perhaps, but given the landscape of this years TD, I think DW did very well. So looking forward to a healthy team & Playoffs (fingers crossed)

I'm not saying I hope he doesn't hit 40+ points... I would love to see him succeed. I'm just being realistic. I hope he/the Sharks prove me wrong on that one though.

Guy deserves success.

Holy ****. Just checked the zone start stats. The sheltering of the Sedins is INSANE.

Malhotra is earning every penny. Thought he was overpaid by 500k or so. Not anymore.

In an interview he just did he said he "retired #64 in San Jose" because it was assigned to him there in training camp and it deserves to stay there.

Classy kid. Loved playing for your guys' team!

Who is watching tonight?
