I remember reading about this a few years ago. Kampfer was hospitalized after being attacked by a Michigan football player.

Right hand shot too...nice.

You have to think he's going to compete for a top six job this and next year. Falk and Prosser better be on alert.

I'm extremely happy. From what I've heard of Kampfer, the kid has potential.

Oh great; we're going to have a midget defense. We've had problems clearing the front of the crease for the past 7 years and we're still going to be having problems.

I guess Minnesota has learned to accept their issues. Hey! We don't have a 1st line center. Eh. We'll just wing it. Hey! We don't have defense. We're just keep picking up guys that suck.

Well at least Kampfer has what we're looking for in a prospect; concussion problems and leaving himself open to injuries!

Dude, it was a prospect with potential for an upcoming UFA. How can you possibly find a negative?

Ahahahaha that dog!!!

I wouldn't get worked up over this. Zanon was a UFA. We got a puck moving D prospect. How is that a bad thing?

If I was Fletcher I would have held out for Suter and Weber for Zanon + Harding + 2nd.

@Minnesota I could stare at that dog all day

@8bandarmadillo Seriously, do you have to be so negative about EVERYTHING? We've gotten rid of guys who weren't working out, weren't working with Yeo's system, and we've gotten pieces that while perhaps not strong physically, do fill some of the holes we have had on defense.

Kampfer weighs 4 pounds less and is the same height as Zanon according to THN and has way more potential. How can you possibly be mad about this. I like this move a lot!

We have finally gotten rid of all of our dead weight D. Let the kids take the reins and hope we sign some solid top 4 D in the summer. Great deadline for the Wild!

Rather would have let Zanon walk than take up another contract slot.

Kampfer + Spurgeron on our defense? Yeah. We're going to be getting pushed over a lot.

When have I been negative about the Zidlicky trade?

Schultz wasn't working out? Really? One bad year and we trade him to our rival for a Zidlicky clone?

Zanon sure, but with Zanon I rather have that open contact slot for the off-season.

The holes in our defense are still there.

Let's be realistic. Spurgeon's almost legally a midget. Kampfer at 5'11" is a totally viable height to play in the NHL.

What can Wild fans tell Bruins fans about Zanon? From what I've seen, he reminds me a bit of a less-feisty Ference. Off base?

I would rather have more D-men who just rim the puck around the boards or chip off the glass. Clearly that's the key to success.

Zanon:

Pros - he plays games when he's injured and likes to block shots, actually has a decent NHL shot, great beard

Cons - sets up a great screen in front of your own goalie, turns the puck over a fair amount, makes a lot of mistakes, can't move the puck, beard actually takes up a second roster spot

Not really.

The other fact is Kampfer has had some injuries in the past. Knee injury along with a major concussion. That isn't good for a team known for injuries.

Meh. I'm more worried that we're sitting at so many contracts already. I think we're at 48/50? That makes it hard to really do anything in the offseason.

So what? Lats is coming off more than likely, Veilleux and Foster. But we need to sign Granlund (47). And then shore up our defense...Is Zucker sign or Coyle? Because there's two more contracts...

There's very little potential with Kampfer. He's 23 and not been able to hold the NHL.

I'd rather have a mid-draft pick. That way you can be flexible with that asset or maybe hit that home run that Kampfer will never be.

Did I miss something? Is Kampfer 5' 7''?

This trade might be the best of the three. Kampfer is a guy Minnesota needs and while he might not work out, the more D-men they try out the better chance one works. Plus there was no chance Fletcher was re-signing Zanon. Getting a mid-level prospect for him is more than anyone expected.

Blocks a ****-load of shots, so he's useful on the PK. Not particularly mistake-prone but not incredibly solid either. Really hard worker, and the dude just wills away injuries and pain. We all laughed our assess off when we found out that he was labelled as an offensive producer in college, because he's a black hole for us.

Even if Kampfer doesn't pan out, he'll be able to help Houston next season. Assuming Prosser makes the big club, our second best offensive defenseman in Houston next season was going to be Cuma...
