Sounds like Aaron Ward.

And I'll take the increase in puck movement and competent breakouts. To each their own, I guess.

I rather take both but I rather prevent goals than score them. That's what forwards are for.

Not much the forwards can do to score goals when the defensemen can't break the puck out of their own end.

That's their own damn fault then. Defensemen can't do everything. Unless we had a Burns, which we don't

And the other half is playing defense. So we're just going to ignore one to fix the other?

How has that worked for this organization since its inception...... o yea we are bottom 5 in scoring every damn year. The forwards do not score on their own. Our forwards are too slow and not creative enough to make end to end rushes on their own. We need PMD to help out our slow players like Koivu and Heatley who are also our most skilled.

No. We downgraded one slightly (in my opinion) to upgrade the other substantially. Hopefully we'll fix what we downgraded in the offseason.

That's more of a problem with the organization than with the individual players.

We also haven't had a 1st line center or any creatively skilled wingers since Gaborik.

We've also had issues with our defensemen not helping the goaltender out by keeping them from being screen.

This organization is taking a very painful approach to address each issue, which is fine but I'm not going to sit back and not be baffled by what the hell they think they are going to accomplish.

No, we downgraded significantly (none of the guys coming in have ever been known to play good defense...hell Oil fans are saying Gilbert is a giveaway machine) to upgrade something that could have been fixed in the off-season or hell at the very least through the draft.

Happy with this. We weren't going to keep Zanon anyway and we got a decent prospect with mid-pairing upside out of it. Exactly what we needed. I'm happier with this than say, 3rd round pick.

Why do I get the feeling if we signed Schultz as a FA in 2007, instead of drafting him in 2000, there would be a little different viewpoint coming from your direction.

I would have still liked Schultz. I liked Skoula. I liked Johnsson...I hated Zidlicky's extension (and the trade).

It just seems like we're spinning our wheels with these trades.

We trade one deficiency to make an even bigger deficiency.

Again; our team wasn't known to play good defensive hockey but they were were they were, solid players that could play the body and play defense. Then we get rid of two of those guys, for better or worse, for guys not known to play defensive hockey. So we went from a neutral to a negative in that regards only to shoot more. I would have been satisfied with just Foster and trading Schultz and Zans for picks.

Fine, fine. I retract my statement.

I'm just saying any player could sustain a career-ending injury. Being a professional athlete has risks.

First of all, I like this trade. I think this kid has some skill. He has some good offensive instincts which almost all of our defenders lack. Most of us were hoping for a 4th/5th rounder for Zanon anyway, might as well take a chance on a kid who has some NHL experience and not a pick that may never make it to the NHL.

Zanon's playoff beard is gonna be awesome by the way.

Somewhat surprising comment from a video on Russo's blog. He calls Zanon "One of the grumpiest players I've ever covered."

(comment @ 1:55-ish, Russo's talking about Zidlicky, mentions Zanon)

That's surprising! I always thought Zanon was a trooper. Sounds like on top of being a UFA, he didn't really want to be with the Wild.
