I'm a big MG fan, and a big Cody fan. This is just a big shakeup move. I'm not a big fan of it but I understand it since Cody won't be top 2 centre with Hank and Kes around for 5 more years. I would of loved to see him score in the playoffs for us this year, but we do have to get tougher and add more defensive depth.
Good luck Cody win that Calder bud!
Let's hope Kassian whips ass and lives up to his fave player, SuperBert!
Alright guys, since one of our players is gone now we can bash them now.
I'm not bashing him, I'm simply stating facts. Saying Cody Hodgson was the most talented player on the Canucks is idiotic. You need to take a deep breath, calm down, and try and be objective.
carter ashton gets traded
next thing we know Hodgson gets traded.
linked? no probably not but whatever.
-------------------------------------------
I just don't get this move. We have potentially 10 years of prime Hodgson, a guy that should step up to being a 1st liner or at worst a good 2nd liner. The most vital forward position of centre jas quality depth set for years. Hodgson was ready to play in the playoffs this year. In return we get Kassian, winger and we could use a top 6 winger no arguments there, but he won't be ready this year and now our centre depth is looking bleak with just Schroeder.
Hodgson for Meyers. I can see that working for both teams, Meyers is a playoff level guy.
Schroeder and a high pick or prosect for Kassian: happy with that.
Hodgson, KCon, high pick for Meyers and Kassian. I can see that working for both teams too.
---------------------------------------
When I heard we were getting Pahlsson I was wondering if Hodgson was gone, that was the 3rd line spot.
-------------------------------------------
Sure we could have bundled Hodgson with Schneider to get something better than Kassian. I'm pretty sure Hodgson + Schneider could get CBJ pick or close enough.
-----------------------------------------
We could have got deals (+/- extras) JVR for Schneider and kept Hodgson. Schneider+Hodgso nfor JVR + Meyers. I could like that.
Is saying that a player is not the most talented on a team bashing them? I guess I'm subconsciously bashing about 20 current canucks then.
Behind Sedins, Kesler, and burrows. I would have Hodgson behind them.
I don't understand how this made us a better team.
Toughness is overrated. TSN Panel said it best we are a team that beats other teams with skill and puck possession. We lost that on our third line today.
Im not sold in Gragnani.. He is 25 and he is not an NHL regular. Edler is 25.
Took Bieksa until he was 25 to make any sort of dent in the NHL. A lot of defencemen don't make it until they're older, even guys like Boyle and Streit who are stars right now.

Except that Cody's puck possession numbers are terrible... so we didn't lose that. Get your head out of the clouds with Cody ( i love him too) but the reality is he wasn't good enough defensively.
Or he's predicting Hodgson's back is a ticking time bomb and he jumped at a chance to get something this team has needed for a long time?
I thought about that as well. Remember Gillis let Willie Mitchell walk for nothing and most fans thought it was because of the risk of him getting injured again after his concussion was too high to justify the money involved (I know, laughable in light of the Ballard acquisition). Without Hodgson this team is only slightly worse off but adding a tough power forward makes them a far better and less predictable team.
As a Buffalo fan, I'm not thrilled with this trade. The legend of Kassian might be better than reality thus far but he instilled an instant sense of toughness on a weak Sabres team. Seeing him beat down Philly's tough guy a couple weeks ago was great and Zach hasn't even developed or perfected his fighting skills yet.
Hoping that Hodgson can deliver but my first impression is that the Sabres are going to regret losing Kassian.

Then he wasn't the most talented player on the Canucks, was he?
Very sad to see Cody go, but then again, as early as next year we might be seeing better performances out of the other skill guys because of this. It would be nice to have somebody around (with skill) to take care of business the next time someone crosschecks Henrik repeatedly in the back for an entire series.
People who are expecting Cody to be effective in the playoffs are wrong. He is not ready to play that role on a cup contender on a long playoff run. Obviously MG thinks the same.
We're trying to win this year, and we need a vet playing 3rd line C.
Kassian is a murderer, one of the biggest players I've ever seen. I'm thrilled we acquired him.
