IS THIS REAL????

HAHA

This was the deal that had to happen. They got the center they've needed for a long time. I love Kassian, but this was the move that had to happen.

Darcy won the day

We get a guy that should be our #1 center for the next decade. Roy slides down to the #2 spot where he's much better suited. And we get a 1st rounder that could be in the #18-#22 range if Nashville gets bounced in the first round, which (coupled with the pair of early-mid 2nds) puts us in great position to move up and get a stud center in the top 5. And hell, we have the resources to give Goose a frontloaded, reasonable cap hit contract offer that no other team will make. Center might be a strong point in the very near future. What a great day for the Sabres.

Hodgson is playing like Henrik was when he first started putting things together. That should give you an idea as to how good he's going to be.

What can you tell us about Kassian? I was hoping this board would be as in shock and disappointment as ours, but that doesn't seem to be the case...
Kassians has huge potential. Best case scenario he's another Bertuzzi. However he has shown effort issues and has not brought the toughness consistently. But when he's on he's shown a great ability to hold the puck along the boards, great hands around the net, scored an awesome breakaway goal earlier this year. The problem has been he disappears for big handfuls of games- both in the NHL and the AHL. If he can get his head right and bring a consistent effort every night he will be a great player.

PROS:
hockey sense is fantastic.
He is very good against the boards.
His shot is hard and accurate, especially his slap-shot.
he has had a tendency to score some clutch goals this year.
his passing is top notch
built like a tree trunk.

CONS:

poor in the faceoff circle
slow of foot. his acceleration is really bad.
noticed him/his line getting pinned into the defensive end a lot recently.

I find Crawford's assessment a little... verbous for what we have seen from Kassian. Great way to pimp this as a huge win for Vancouver though. I suppose none of their panel has noticed the massive void in the middle in Buffalo or the ToI Hodgson is going to be getting instantly. He's immediately the best or second best center on the team. Both teams addressed a need and did well, but listening to Crow... eh. Pump those tires there Marc.

Hate to see Kassian go, but you've gotta give to get. Very nice move by Darcy.

Wow. Double Wow.

Kassian was made expendable by Foligno, by Regier's own words.

Decent depth d-man. Plays a solid two-way game but isn't anything special.

You guys got a great young player, reminds me of former Sabre Chris Drury. He will be a future captain for sure, and a 30-30 threat, with solid defense. He will be missed in Vancouver, you guys got a good one.

He's not overly big but he's really good at winning puck battles along the board. You guys will love him. I just hope Kassian becomes Lucic 2.0 or this trade would look extremely foolish for Vancouver as soon as by next season. Also, thank us for taking your whipping boy in MAG.
I expect him to be the #1b right out of the shoot. Roy's struggling and they will have a lot of toI for Cody right away.

Buffalo really needs a Center(s)

Zach is exactly what many here wanted when drafted, an ass kicker that can score goals. He has played a few games in Buffalo this season (nothing great or bad, IMO) but Buffalo has bigger needs right now for a #1 center.

First and foremost, Kassian said all the right things in his TSN interview. Thanks for being classy, Zack.

Nextly, we added a high-character center with #1c upside for a big, tough winger with attitude concerns.

Holy ****ing win, Darcy.

Very VERY disappointed in this deal from Gillis from a Vancouver fan standpoint. Hodgson was our future replacement for Henrik Sedin as the Canucks top line Centre. As a 22 year old, his on ice vision and hockey IQ ranks probably 3rd of all forwards on the Canucks right now. He probably has the 2nd best shot on the team amongst forwards behind only Kesler. Downsides are that his physical development is a bit lacking particularly as it relates to speed but that usually comes with age and continued development which most do not see as a big deal.

Can Buffalo fans provide some background on Kassian? How badly were the Canucks fleeced in this deal??

Which is slightly bothersome since in the short term, Darcy has again made a small soft team smaller and softer in the shortterm.

Trade works for both teams. Happy for hodgson, he is now a #1 center where there was no way he was going to go ahead of kesler and sedin. Vancouver gets their bull for the playoff run along with a Right handed Dman

Drury, less sand paper, more playmaking, better shot, and natural offensive talents.
