Gaustad to Nashville

McKenzie just said on TSN that he has been dealt to the Preds. They think its a first round pick, but not sure yet.

Goose to Nashville

@WGRZSports #Sabres USA Today: Paul Gaustad traded to Nashville. Still waiting to see what BUF gets in return.

EDIT...Sorry if there is a thread in this. My phone doesn't appear to be refreshing the main Buffalo page right at the moment

If this should be a seperate thread, Mods can move it:

Thank you Paul Gaustad.

Sure, there have been some rough times. And discussion about your cap hit. But Goose has been part of some remarkable Sabres teams. And some remarkable moments. The brawl in Ottawa. Winning faceoffs left and right. A heart and soul guy, did whatever was asked of him, and gave a damn pretty much every time he stepped onto the ice.

Wish nothing but good luck for the Goose, and when we're out and about we'll still give a honk for you (unless you're playing us). Just stay out West come July 1, k?

I loved Gaustad as a prospect and have followed him for 11 years. I wish him well in Nashville.

And who knows what this pick might turn out being.

THANK YOU, PAUL GAUSTAD. Basically, everything you'd want in a hockey player that doesn't produce offensively.

Well put. As fans, we often want guys who'll bleed for us, and Goose was one of the few guys on this team that would. Best of luck in Nashville, and hopefully we'll be in touch this summer.

Always liked Goose, but I LOVE that Regier ended up getting a first out of the deal.

I'll crack up if they re-sign Goose on 7/1.

The draft will be fun with 2 1sts and 2 2nds this year.

Mike Johnson on TSN just said that we got the fourth rounder, not Nashville. It keeps going back and forth as to who got the 4th, but if we got the 1st AND the 4th... wow

You will be missed Goose. One of the few Sabres who never made me question their heart. I hope he does well in Nashville and would be glad to have him back next season.

They have it wrong. Official Sabres twitter have us sending the 4th rounder, I'll trust that one as more official.

The Sabres also announced that they have acquired a first-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Nashville Predators in exchange for center Paul Gaustad and Buffalo’s fourth-round pick in the 2013 draft.

So this move is great for Buffalo in terms of long-term futures, but it does make a small, soft team even smaller and softer for the rest of this season. It's not like McCormick was even playing well when his concussion issues weren't keeping him out of the lineup. So that leaves... Kaleta? as the only physical player in the forward ranks who will drop the mitts and it's him and the mini's (Gerbe/Ennis) who might bodycheck someone.

Butter soft indeed.

I am happy with this deal. I originally had Goose tagged for San Jose but I see where he fits in with Nashville. (Think the Preds are an overlooked and thus dangerous team.)

I'll take the number one and giving up the 4th rounder is fair.

Sure as heck better than signing Goose for what his agent was asking.

We'll miss his face off ability and 1st line PK.

Who takes that role on now?
