What do we have in Marc-Andre Gragnani?

Everyone is obsessing on Hodgson/Kassian but the Canucks also acquired a new defenseman to battle it out with Rome and Alberts for playing time. I know next to nothing about this guy. Apparently he's an excellent puck mover, was the Sabres leading scorer with 7 points in 7 games in last year's playoffs (I find that impressive) and was the AHL's best defenseman last season. I trust Gillis despite the mania raging on this board right now. This player reminds me of a Francois Beauchemin who might be able to come in and fit our system. Also I guess we have a new three headed monster in Vancouver now in Rome/Alberts/Gragnani.

When he is playing well, you have a good offensive dman who can play the power play, jump into the rush and has a great break out pass

When he is off his game, he is a defensive liability that is a turnover machine.

I was one of the last guys on his bandwagon and I think this trade could be good for his career, he needs to get his confidence back. He can also fill in as a forward, that is how offensive his game is.

Not the defensively competent d-man that we needed at the deadline.

He's awful. I'm sorry but that's the brutal truth guys. He is the perfect example of why +/- is not indicative of play. He is just brutal defensively, and is a turnover machine. He is so predictable on the PP and never shoots it. He is going to get ruined in the WC, can't deal with physicality and a strong forecheck at all.

On the other hand, you will love Kassian.

Is he seriously the worst defenseman that's played more than 15 games or so for the team?

I mean, the team's had some real stinkers in Doug Houda and Doug Janik and whatever...but yeah...

I am going to give Gragnani some credit:

By giving him his own thread for us to state just how abysmally putrid he is at hockey. Not many players get their own thread, but here you go, MAG! Congrats!

Get this ****ing ass-tool off the ice. Don't care if it means Joe Finley FTW, just get Gragnani out of my face.

Love,
Jbuddy

As I posted in the Kassian thread, has really regressed since last year and is very poor defensively. but a very good offensive catalyst when on his game

Ya but Miller's really bad. Any goalie would have had that. Look at that five hole.

Yeah, most of us Sabres fans hate him with a passion.

He loves to pull his no-look pass on the Power Play, and Lindy Ruff always enjoyed it too, which is why he kept him out there to give the other team the puck.

MAG is frustrating to watch, but there is a small chance he can be coached into using his brain.

Kassian is a good player though, and one of the fan favorites, especially considering how young he is and that he hasn't played too many games with the Sabres.

does he even play the right side?

from everything i read, he's a cheap replacement for ballard. so who will we get for ballard at the draft?

Reading the Buffalo gdt's over the season looking for Ehrhoff info he seems to be their favourite whipping boy.
His stats look ok, hopefully he's not that bad.

He is the softest D man you will ever see. He has 12 hits in 44 games. He is terrified of shooting the puck, but when he's not passing to the wrong team he can make some really good passes. He goes D-to-D even if there's five people covering his D partner. The guy can put up great numbers....in the AHL.

Well this just makes the whole day even better.

It is Lukas Krajicek version 2.0

Sure, Miller could've done a better job. But a weak, no-look pass to the middle of the ice during OT is unacceptable. And I've lost count of how many times he has been a healthy scratch this season, so don't expect much.

I know, I'm a Sabres fan and watching him was nerve-wracking .

Looking forward to seeing Kassian in a Canucks jersey. Good luck in the playoffs.

He was great in the playoffs last year. Still developing. Good passer and vision.

We make defenseman play above their scouting reports. I think he will fit in well with our puck possession style.

Remember Error-hoff? Perhaps Gillis thinks he can excel in our system like Ehroff did
