They are really missing some opportunities to score the knockout goal. Given Calgary's recent struggles, a three-goal lead pretty much finishes it off. First Sobotka then Backes miss the finish, now have to kill a penalty. Hope they don't let Calgary back in this. Seems like they don't put the boot on the throat when they get two-goal leads this year.
Calgary's playing terrible more than we're playing good. Don't feel like we're smothering them despite the low shot total. Calgary just doesn't look crisp, or high energy, or dangerous, and the Blues pretty much outhustled them on two power plays and got a ridiculous softie from Kiprusoff. I'm not overly confident if the Flames come out strong and get it to 3-2. If that happens, they'll know they have no right to be in the game but they know they're at home and they're desperate for a playoff spot. The momentum of this game could flip on a dime, as poorly as Calgary is playing. They need to get it to 4-1 and then I think Calgary quits.
Weird thing is they had been playing great hockey before the Edmonton blowout. Honestly. I watched a lot of those games and they looked strong. But so much of it depends on Kiprusoff and he's just slumped badly these past few games and the team feeds off him.
