Sorry I'm new here and have only seen 2 or 3 years playoff avatars, but I just don't love the legal to drink theme. I mean last year was the same thing with 20 years and the dos equis vibe (which was perfectly brilliant!!!), doing another alcohol/playoff year connection seems a little redundant.
Just hoping to hear a few more ideas especially from the vets. By the way, can anyone list some history of the past avatars? I know of the "dos decados" and "winning elements." Thanks!

The last few years are in post #1...I've got some of the older themes saved in various places. I used to post them on Photobucket but now I've got them on my own personal webspace. I'll post them when I get a chance. I've done these for 4 or 5 years prior to this year...Doc Holliday has been handed the reigns and he's the man in charge.

Maybe with some extras a little bit of the main theme like: "21 - long enough for ya? No, I'll take 23."
Maybe make it a card-theme. Like Blackjack or different games. But must have age/streak(playoff/home) in it!
Helm: 21 breakaways in a game, can't finish ONE.
Ericsson: 21 chances to clear the crease, can't make a hit.
Abdelkader: 21 fights in a season, can't win on points.
Zetterberg: 21 lousy regular games, playoff-warrior.
In a card-theme. Old players are high cards, the younger ones are the smaller numbers.

The thing is, the legal to drink concept can only be used once in an entire playoff streak. It would seem like a waste to just ignore the obvious connection simply based on the fact a numbers theme was used last season. Next year and the year after we will be able to use other ideas and inspiration which will have nothing to do with numbers.
It's not about redundancy, it is more about coincidence to me. Plus, it seems to be a well liked concept all around. The good news it is still in the conceptualizing process so there is plenty of time to figure out a good theme.

Yeah I agree with you. The Dos Decadas was more of a coincidence with the Dos Equis ads becoming hugely popular. 21 is drinking age so that makes the theme of the streak being old enough to drink a great one. I also liked the Imported from Detroit concept, again piggy backing off a popular ad campaign. The streak being old enough to drink just seems to have better potential as far as each player having their own drink that plays off their name. I don't see how you'd do something similar with the Imported from Detroit theme.
I know I didn't appreciate overly critical opinions and countless unrealistic themes being thrown my way for the years I did this. You guys just need to get behind the theme Doc rolls with because he'll do a great job and keep ideas in mind for another time.
While I did appreciate people throwing out possible ideas...ultimately, the person that has to make these should get the final call. We have file size and pixel limits and everyone wanting multiple frames don't realize that quality gets compromised the more frames you add to an animation. If file size wasn't an issue, the sky is the limit to what we can do.
I think this year has several different avenues...the 12th title in '12 is a nice angle or playing off the streak being 21 (drinking age or blackjack) is another solid angle. I know back in '08, I had thought about an election theme...this year being another election year. Doc is on the money with where he's going with this...it's always the hardest part to get the idea finalized and then it comes to mass-producing these things and fulfilling the requests.
I know that the drinking age in Michigan is 21 but that doesn't ring true for our foreign fans. In most European countries the age limit is 18 and it is 19 in Canada.
To be honest, I'm not keen on the idea of equating the Wings playoff run with an alcohol theme as we also have posters here that are under the legal drinking age.
I would much prefer the Blackjack theme or the Impoted from Detroit theme
